Do the Animals know something we don't?
There has been SO MUCH loss in the past month...our Vet's almost 14 yo pug girl Roxanne passed today as well...I have to wonder...is there something bad coming that the animals know about that we don't and they're getting the heck out of here?

Scary thought Roxane - I hope not! I think it's just cycles, changes of seasons; and as we are such a large community of animal lovers, we get to hear the glad and the sad.

I find that spring is always a bad time for loss--both animal and human. Not sure why, but it does seem to go that way.

Yes, it does seem that way. I think maybe they hold on for their owners'/family's sake, through the holidays perhaps, then let themselves go.

That's definitely the case with humans. The hospice people used to tell me that just after the winter holidays was a big time for them, even for the ones who were no longer very aware. There is some sixth sense about needing to hang on until after special family events.

I agree with Rona. We have known each other a long long time, and most of us have rescue dogs (pug or otherwise), many of them elderly.
I feel knowing so many people with elderly adopted pugs leads us to hear about more pug losses, cyclical or otherwise.
In recent losses: I lost Louisie (13.8 yrs old) in August of 2006, Thelma (15.5) in April of 2008, Gumpy (13 or 14) in May 2008. Beau (12 or 13) hung on fighting thru the entire year of 2009, and I lost him in February 2010. What is weird is Louisie, Thelma & Beau all died on the 2nd day of the month.
So far, 2010 is not off to a very happy start. I hope it improves.
(((group hug))) Sorry Kendie...

There is "something in the air" or maybe March is just a good month to die. In the past 2 days I've had a friend's Mom (in hospice care) die and another friend's 25 year old brother have a grand mal seizure and suffocate in his bed.
(Warning, Black Humor ahead)
Maybe the "Angel of Death" is like the local Police Department that seem to look harder for ticket opportunities so they can make their year end budget, only "his" year end in in March and he's got to make quota.

The vet who did Timmy's accupuncture last Friday said that she was bummed out because so many of her favorite animals had died. The day before there were 3 euthanasias and 1 death in a normally slow clinic.
Interesting thought about them hanging on until after the holidays.

I have definitely seen it in humans. Many people will hang on until a special thing - holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, birth of a grandchild, graduation, etc. - and then die. We used to comment in Labor & Delivery how often a child would be born and the grandparent would die. That being said, it sure does feel like a lot of loss of late.

I never thought of that, but my great grandparents died in Feb/March and my mom died in the month of April.
Not really related, but I've also heard of 3 pugs being accidentally run over by their owner in the past week. So odd.

Our lovely little pet rat got sick in late March of the year we got Otto. He died on April 2, and Otto came home on April 4.
We loved that litte rat and missed him terribly. So, his was another early spring departure to the Bridge.

I was thinking in a very strange and weird way. Maybe it is like spring cleaning.... the older hospice ones need to leave us so we will have room for the new hospice ,hurt or abandoned ones we will get in.
seems very odd...this year seems to have been especially sad so far.
One of my fav pugs passed away on the 6th of March. His name was Riley. He had no eyes .... both had been removed for different reasons. He came from SEPRA. His mom wrote and said Brenda had named him Riley hoping he would have "the life of Riley" . I can testify he did.
