Recreational bones/Soup bones
I've given my girls the marrow bones from PetsMart but when I was at the grocery store I picked up some soup bones for them. I've never given them these so I'm wondering for those that have, do you give them to them frozen or thaw them out first? I know either one would be fine but I'm terrified of them choking and am wondering if they bite a piece of meat off that is frozen, they could choke since it's so hard. I'm wondering if I should give it to them thawed out. What have you done?

I give Phoebe raw marrow bones that I buy for her at the specialty food store, which im sure is similar to what you have. I thaw them out in the fridge over night til the marrow is gooey in the center and let her go to town. She usually sucks out the gooey stuff first then chews on the bones. The ones she has are about 2 inches in diameter. I think they are the smallest ones the store carries.

I have given soup bones many times. I have never given them fully frozen, but always give them when they are cold from the fridge. And, I give them outside, because it is messy!
And, yes, I am terrified of choking too! I watch like a hawk, and if I think they are getting the bone chewed down too small and trying to swallow it, I take it away. Pugs can be so silly sometimes.
Since I buy raw meat and bones often, I just watch the meat section at the grocery store, and pick up whatever is a good deal. I watch for the soup bones, and the neck bones. The other day I found fresh beef tripe! The only thing I can never find is fresh sardines. Those canned ones make my guys sick.

Yes, these are probably about 2 inches in diameter as well. I'm just worried about them being able to actually chew the bone. It's a beef bone, which I know is harder but I don't want them being able to eat it.

Do they seem to grind the bone down? And if so, how fast? The one I got from PetsMart, they haven't even put a dent in it. I feed them raw but I grind their bones because they don't chew AT ALL. They swallow as much and as fast as they can which makes me way too nervous.

Phoebe hasnt actually chewed any up. She has a few with little teeth marks in them, more like grooves but thats about it. Those are about 6 months old though. She has them everywhere in the house.

I have given them thawed and totally frozen. While I do watch them, I don't worry about choking on any meat. Most dogs can't chew off a big enough piece to choke and the chewing action mitigates the freezing. I tend to give my guys big bones--beef ribs and the like.
