scarey morning

Post  couchpugs on 3/4/2010, 9:54 pm

Everything started out as usual. Dogs start waking up and pestering me about 5.30. I try to fend them off for another 1/2 hour. I get all 9 ( yes 9 at the moment) out and shut the sliders so i can have peace while I fix their breakfast. ok dishes all in the right places and I let them in and get them situated. ...... Wait.... we are 2 short!! Rocky and Ellie ( who just came in to CFPR yesterday) are not here. I am still in PJ's but I run around the side of the house and see if they are playing in the garden NOPE. I look around the other side and I am shocked! the gate is about 2 inches open. I knew it... they were gone!! I rush inside and jump into some clothes . My daughter, who was in she jumped out and grabbed some sweats on and we both bolted out the door, she took her car and went one way and I went the other. We only live 5 houses in from a VERY busy state road. Anyway I made it up and down a few blocks then circled back into the neighbor hood. I saw Tanya's car stopped in front of a neighbors home. Only3 doors down. the 2 pugs had actually jumped into the ladies car as she was getting ready to go to work!! they took them in and gave them some water and were about ready to come down to our house when Tanya showed up!! (Everyone knows where the pugs live)

There was a little boy over yesterday playing in the yard with my guys as his mom and I unloaded some dog food for the rescue. I looked at the gate to see that it was shut after he left. Looked likie ti to me at the time. I guess next time I will actually test it to make sure it really is closed!!!

Took me all morning to stop shaking I was so upset.
All is well..... they are being moved to another prearranged foster home tomorrow after their neuter and spay.. thank goodness!!

I am still a wreck just thinking about it...

I know that feeling. I have now set up a piece of lattice work between my house and my neighbours so that IF the gate gets left open, no one can escape. We can't lock our gate since it's an easement between the two houses. I've had Hazel go missing once and it almost killed me with worry, but she was next door. Thank God.

Hope your blood pressure and heart rate return to normal!

Glad they were found and safe! I know how scary that is too. All 3 of ours nearly got out yesterday because the backyard neighbor was replacing the fence and had the back fence down. Luckily, Dennis saw the pugs headed toward the fence and called them back before they reached it. Nice of the guy to let us know!

Oh, I've had this happen!! It is the scariest thing when they escape and you never know if you can find them or get to them before they get hurt. I'm glad they were found. How smart of them to try and catch a lift with your neighbor. Maybe they were just trying to earn a living??

Thank Dog there's a happy ending! My dogs would have to negotiate a locked door; one security door and one locked gate to escape, but I am still eternally frantic they'll manage!

Time to put a lock and chain on that gate... How scary. I am glad it had a happy ending. How smart of the pugs to jump in that lady's car!

I would be in the same state you were in! I'm so glad they were safe and sound!

Gosh, I would have been a nervous wreck, too (you should have seen me the other morning when I went to feed my turtle and discovered he was gone! He'd climbed out of the tank, off of the table, across the room, down a small flight of stairs and across another room to wedge himself under the baseboard heater - I was frantic!)

I'm glad the pugs are home safe - give them a big hug for me!

I can't imagine how terrified you were. That's one thing about living in an apartment: when Penny is out, she is with me and on a leash. Sometimes I wish we had a yard, but, then ......

Very scary indeed, but such things can occasionally happen to the best and most careful of us. So glad all is well.
