Ichiro hurt his foot

Post  Renee on 3/5/2010, 6:39 pm

So....should I take my little man Ichiro to the vet? He was running outside chasing the ball, and he cut the bottom of his foot, in the webbing. I'm sure he cut it on ice or hard snow, since we are in Alaska.

He came inside and it was bleeding. It has stopped bleeding, but now he is limping and not putting any pressure on that foot. He is resting of course.

I know there is fear of infection....but, do you think I could wait until Monday to see how it goes?

Does your local vet have weekend hours or would you have to take him to an emergency vet? I'd worry about it getting infected as he walked on it over the weekend, so if my vet were available, I'd probably stop in, or give a call. Will he wear a bootie or some sort of covering over the foot to protect it?

Have you cleaned it with some warm water? I usually use a small plastic container that I can slide under Otto's foot when I have to clean him up.

Hope it's nothing serious for your Ichiro.

If you can wash it, put antibiotic cream or ointment on it, and wrap it, then I'd see how it goes overnight. I know how busy you are and how many pugs are there. Seems like if it isn't one thing, it's another, heh?

Poor Ichy! Give him a kiss from me.

Two good pieces of advice already given - hope he's okay!

Alright....well, I couldn't take the chance. I had to get my baby in to see the dogtor. She said he ripped a nail, and possibly a puncture woulnd in the webbing in there too. So, some pain meds and some antibiotics should get him set. He's on light duty too. He is feeling much better, even able to walk on his foot, now that he's taken the pain meds. I'm glad he's okay, cuz he was hurting before.

yeah - make this day #2 in a row for me at the vets office. Abercrombie there yesterday and now Ichiro today. Sheesh! Good thing these puggies are my life!

While we had him in though, she checked his tumor. He has one of those tumors that just has fat in it, but unfortunately, it is right in the joint of his front leg. It's about the size of a large gumball now, and hardened.....so, you know the next answer right....he has to get it removed. She said I could wait for it to grow more, but because it is in his joint, the bigger it gets, the harder it will be to remove. I'm worn out!
