An emergency clinic just called us and said a pug was tied to their door this morning(!!!) and he needs his eye removed, and since they would charge 3500 dollar for the surgery, they wouldn't/could'nt do it and if we didn't get him, would take him to the pound like that (where he'd get no care!!!). Ugh!

A volunteer for us is getting him now and getting him to our vet asap.

At least they didn't take the pug out into the desert and dump him. And at least the emergency clinic had the sense to call SNPR. Nonetheless, very sad. I heart pug rescue.

I know, I just feel so bad that he's been in pain for god knows how long.

$3500 to remove an eye..... Holly needs one removed and my vet said it was a simple procedure and it would be less than $500.

No I know, we have had eye removals for rescue pugs that have not been nearly that amount, depending on how severe the injury is. That was what the er vet would have charged at their place. Sorry, didn't clarify that.

Wait a minute. The emergency vet just lost points. The cost is essentially the same no matter where the surgery is done. The emergency vet's cost is not what the emergency vet bills. Huge difference. If the emergency vet is more interested in $$$ than in helping a suffering little puggy, then poo on the emergency vet (I wanted to say something stronger, but am trying to clean up my act).

Yeah, agreed, that was what made me mad as well. I guess I will focus on the fact that they called us though and take deep breaths. Repeatedly!

My thought was HOW can you be a hospital and a vet and look at the dog suffering and not treat it.... disgusting!

Not only not treat it but say they will take it to the shelter-where he almost certainly would be put down!

We just found out he is a she. I just got a pic, she is very cute-maybe around 7-8 years old (estimate right now).

Sorry, pic is pretty graphic

Post  Saira on 2/2/2010, 7:33 pm

She also has an injury to her jaw with broken teeth and will need reconstruction surgery on that too. Vet thinks a bad dog fight (dog fighting?), she has bite marks all over. I guess when they first found her in the morning, she was in shock and not very responsive. And looks like she recently had a litter. It's so depressing.

what is wrong with people?

I'm glad she's at "my" vet. I'll be there Thurs night for a recheck. Hopefully there'll be some progress in her treatment by then.

Apparently she was giving kisses to the vet (which made all of us who heard that start crying), even while she must have been in pain. She's not in great shape right now, our vet is worried about internal injuries so they are checking for that as well.
