Re: END OF LIFE CARE

There must be a huge difference of cost between companies and areas. When I was at the emergency vet with Chester, I picked up a pamphlet from a company that offered end of life care in my area. It was $485 for a group cremation and $685 for a private cremation, plus all the other services.

Wow that is a lot, Kendie! We paid $110 for Pugsy's cremation. It was not completely "private", but her remains were partitioned off from others. It was a little over $200 for the completely private cremation. Given that this was a company that came highly recommended from another pug owner and they have been in the cremation industry doing both human & pet cremations for over 20 years, I trusted that they knew what they were doing & that she was indeed separated from others. Her remains were returned to us in a box inside of a pretty blue velvet bag that has "until we meet again at the Rainbow Bridge" embroidered on it. We also received a certificate and the ER made a nice imprint of her paw with her name on it for us in scupley clay that we baked (to harden) when we got home.

I was sad when I went back and saw that I originally replied to this just four days before she passed away.

That is the same for me. The price is very resonable and I think it's a wonderful option.

I think that it all sounds very good.

My Ty will be cremated and I plan to keep his ashes and have them put with me when I am cremated. At my age I might be the first to go...............

How I wish there had been something available when our beloved family pug, Korky was uthanized. We did take him home and bured him in a very special box with his bed and blanket. Now my son has moved to a different home and we had to leave Korky behind. (oh my my eyes are full of tears and this happened in 1993)

At that time there were no pug forums or anywhere for me to go for sympathy and understanding. No Rainbow Bridge.
It would have helped me so very much. I cried for weeks and my fellow co-workers and many of my friends just could not understand what I was going through. Even my immediate family, although also devasted, recovered much faster than I.

Thanks for reading my lament.

I just got an email from Sophie's holistic vet (she's a vet that has branched off into her own holistic vet practice) and they are offering expanded home services, including euthanasia and pain management.

I realize that this thread is a bit old, but what a wonderful service to provide for people. One of my daughters cats died about a month or so ago, and the cremation alone was $125.00 at the Humane Society. I will have to be thinking about such things sooner rather than later and I wish we had something here like this. We have the ashes of the 2 cats we've had cremated on the hutch in the dining room, 1 of them there for 5 years now, I still can't bring myself to scatter them. When Winston's time comes, he will be cremated and then we'll see what happens then.
