Re: ID Tags
Ugh, I have been waiting all day to comment on this thread!! Darn work.
My pugs tags include: micochip tag, rabies tag, SEPRA tag (except Lola), and personalized tag
1. My pugs only wear their tags when they have on their harnesses, so that would be when to travel, go to the dog park, are at my parent's house, etc.
2. I just have the plain SS round tags from www.pettags.com too. They are durable and last forever.
3. I attach them to their harnesses with D rings. They are about 1" in length. I get them at the hardware store. Stole this idea from one of my SEPRA adopted families.
4. I have Quiet Spot tag bags for all of them too. It prevents the tags from making noise and prevents the SS from making dark places on their fur.
But I have always put their names, my name, phone number on their tags. Teddy does have 'No Tramadol' on the back of his, but that isn't correct now, since he takes it every day now! LOL! I need to reorder their tags because we don't have a land line anymore. I am definetely going to put Medical Condition on Teddy & Baby Girl's. I am just not sure if I should put their name on them anymore????

Re: ID Tags
Mine live in collars with tags 24/7. Back at our rental house, Jackson got out twice from doors that blew open, so I don't want to risk that happening again
My guys are such sluts that someone knowing their name is about the last thing that would make them go to a stranger. Treats? A lap? A pulse? That would be about all that's required. So I'm not too concerned about their names being on their tags. Since they're both chipped, I don't think anyone could make a claim to being their family, so I have their names on their tags. I really like the idea of putting "Microchipped" or "Medical Alert" on their tags, though.

This thread has been really interesting! I love Lisa's idea of "this dog is equipped with on star".
Co-Pilot can not really wear a collar her neck is as big as her head, and I worry about leaving one on her 24/7 getting caught on something. It's interesting all our different issues and how we handle them.
I REALLY like the "medic alert" thing too. Hmmmm
Oh and solution for moving the tags around on different harnesses?
I have a couple tags on these things. They are wonderful

Most of mine would go to someone, but the reason I don't put their names on their tag is I figure if they DO get stolen, the S**** thief can damn well figure out his or her own names for my pug.

Murphy and Duke are typical pugs, they'd probably go to a stranger anyway. Duke would first bark his head off and make the stranger know that he's a tough pug and the person may want to think twice before messing him him. Murphy would just lean into them and ask for a puggy massage.

I have "I have Epilepsy - Call my Mom-I need my medicine" but since Norton follows me every where I don't think I have to worry.
Re: ID Tags
After my experience yesterday, I've decided that I'm definitely putting my street address on my guys next tags. I found a sweet little Jack Russell by my driveway as I was leaving. Her tag had her street address that was only 5 doors down from me, so I was able to drop her back home very easily.

Penny never goes out when she's not on leash, and everyone in the apartment complex knows her and knows where she lives. She has a fetching tag, and it is on her harness. She's au naturel when she's inside.

Re: ID Tags
Ours wear their tags and harnesses all the time. I figure, they are going to need those tags if they get away and they are most likely to get away when we aren't expecting it, so tags need to be on at all times. Kindof like wearing a helmet while riding your bike. You don't usually need it, but you can't ever know when you are going to need it, so you wear it all the time to be safe.
And Gracie used to bolt out of the front door, when she was younger and more adventurous! Jack, however, only goes where DH goes...

How funny that this got bumped and I was just ordering tags last night. I got double sided ones with name, address and 3 phone numbers (one is for their vet).

I got mine at petco when I first got my pup...but then when I got him insured, trupanion (my pet insurance ) sent me one when I signed up. it's really nice, metal, simple, and won't rub off. I've had it for a while now and looks new still! It's really cool because it also works as a lost/found service. Worth checking out :)
