I need your help. Duke needs a new tag. We got his at PetsMart and it's rubbing off. A few years ago (yikes, Murphy will be 5 next month!) I bought Murphy and Manny these tags at a local pet shop. They are guarnateed not to rub off and they are still immaculate. The pet store has since closed and I have no idea what the company was. I've done a search on the web but I can't find them.
Does anyone have any ideas? The Duke of Whirl needs a new tag!

Sam,
I've used this place
http://www.tagxpress.com/
They've had their tags right at a year now, and they still look good. I got a metal tag.
Hope this helps.

So this raises the question, how often do your pugs wear their tags?
CP is naked unless we leave the house and I have several tags on different harnesses so I don't have to switch them around too much.

Tilly only wears tags on her harnesses when we take her somewhere. She never has them on her collars at home.

Angel is the only one who wears a harness in the house - I need it for steering. (she's not very good remember her "marks", and I often have to guide her.) She does have a tag on her harness.
The rest are nekkid most of the time, though I'd like to find collars for them. Yes, I'd put a tag on them, just in case.
I've bought mine from www.luckypet.com for several years. I like the plastic ones. Big variety of sizes, shapes, and you can get quite a bit of text on there.
Do you guys put their name on them? I've always wondered about that... I put my name on there and contact info, but not their name. That way noone could call them away from me...or try to claim the dogs belong to them.

My Boys are naked at home. Harnesses (with tags) when we travel.

Hmmm....interesting point. I hadn't thought of it that way. Our tags have their names on it (with our last name, cell phone and home phone). I figured if someone found them, it would be more comforting for the pugs to be called by name. Now, I'm going to have to re-think this.

I did the same and now have often thought I should get her tags remade.
On the tags that it fits I did put "MIcrochipped" on it just so people know.
Also when people approach me about her in public about how lovely she is, if I get a creepy vibe AT ALL, I tell them,
"Thanks she is a real sweetheart, it's just all her medical problems that gets so expensive"

Now you have me wondering. I have their names on it and then our names and phone number. They never wear their tags. The are nekkid at home and when we go out, I used different harnesses all the time and it's too hard to keep changing their tags from one harness to another. I keep their tags on collars and bring the collars with us to the dog park (in case the county comes out checking for rabies tags). I've never really thought about it but now I'm thinking what a bad mom I am to have them not even wear their tags when we are out. I guess I figure they are with us on leash and if we are at the dog park, they are not out of my sight. Hmmmmm, I need to figure something out so they can wear their tags but not have to change them from their harnesses all the time.

Re: ID Tags
Darci - that was part of my issue too. I switch the harnesses around, and Bello was offended at being called Jessie. lol
I wasn't sure if I was being paranoid (highly possible!) or not with the whole name thing.
I don't put the rabies tags on there though - I hate hearing the metal clinking around. Mine really aren't out in public that much, just the occassional trip to PetSmart for a nail trim or a ride around the block. I only do rabies every 3 years (well, all vaccs at this point), so I don't even know which rabies tag belongs to which dog at this point.

I don't think your being paranoid at all Allie. I am a worry wart and think of every worst case scenario that can happen so I can't believe this never crossed my mind when we take them out. I guess the rabies tag I could just keep on their collars and keep them in my bag so if/when the county comes out, I have them. But, I may just have to get a few tags made up for the harnesses we use the most and keep them on there. I like the idea of having "microchipped" on there too. I have a microchip tag but again, too much of a pain to switch back and forth. I'll have to watch this thread and see what others do too. Good suggestions so far though!!

See, I consider myself overly paranoid, and I'm disappointed that I didn't think of this. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do.
Along Sara's lines, maybe I could new tags and put a 'medical alert' on them. Then people would think twice about actually keeping them for themselves.
And for the rabies tag...I put the name tag on a top loop of the harness (shoulder area), the rabies tag goes on a loop in front of their chest, and the leash clips into the D-ring on their back. No clanging! But only one harness has their rabies tags. I don't switch them when I switch harnesses.

I am going to be getting new tags soon, and I think I'll do the same. Just my name, number, and then a medical alert (which would be true in the case of Sophie!

Mine are also nekkid around the house. And I won't put their names on the tags, either. I have "Call My Mommy" and then I list my cell and home phone numbers.
Except for changing phone numbers, their tags have lasted years. Probably because they are on the back of a harness they only wear once or twice a month, and not on a collar where fur is rubbing the tags all the time.

Re: ID Tags
I've thought about putting a tag on Thurston saying "This dog equipped with On Star".
I have his name, my cell number, and his chip number on his collar and he wears it 24/7 (that's my paranoia). I don't know if that's the right thing to do, but I'm comfortable with it. He also has his license. tag.
Actually, his tag clip broke the other day and he is tagless at the moment. It scared the HELL out of me when Chris called from home asking me where Thurston was. I panicked since he was left at home. It turns out that Mommy has plum worn him out with all of the exercise and he was crashed out on the chaise lounge. When he doesn't even have enough energy to wiggle his butt fo Daddy, he's TIRED!

Allie that is an interesting point about not putting their names on. I'm also paranoid and surprised that thought has never crossed my mind.
I got my crews tags from pettags.com. They all have stainless steel ones and they look as good today as the day I got them. Of course mine are nekkid at home and their tags are on their harnesses. I just bought duplicate tags for their different harnesses so I didn't have to move them around. I even got duplicates of their microchip tags.

I got my dog's tags at :http://www.dogtagsonline.com
They are military style dog tags that come with rubber silencers (thank GOD). They each have
their name, my address, my cell phone number and "If I am alone, I am lost" on one tag. On the other tag
I put the vet clinic name, number and "Reward if found". The only thing I didn't like about this site was
the way you can only have so many letters per line, the font size is fixed so it took a bit of time to fit everything
on there how I wanted it.
However fabulous these are, I admit they only wear them when we go out in public or if the dog
sitter is coming to take care of them. Most of the time they are "au natural".
