Snicker's Video Tribute

Post  ForeverHopper on 10/16/2011, 7:13 am

I completed Snickie's video the other night and wanted to share. I know some of you saw it on FB but I wanted to share with my other PA friends too. When I got done and reviewed the video, it was just all too perfect. We miss our baby noodle so so much. It's been a month and a half now but still feels like yesterday. Crying or Very sad

Wow, just wow. I don't know her story, but she had a great life with you, the depth of your love is readily evident.

What a perfect tribute. Her sweet grey face reminds me a lot of Chipper. She was lucky to have you guys as a family, and I know you felt blessed to have her in your life, as well.

This should come with a tissue warning! What an incredible tribute. My hat is off to you and to hospice homes everywhere.

It's such a beautiful tribute, Sharon, and one that shows that adopting a senior does not focus on how much time you have with them but how much love. She was a gorgeous girl. What was her story, how did she come into rescue?

Thank you so much everyone. I (along with a handful of other people in the rescue world) got an email for a senior female needing to be rehomed asap but it had to be within a week. Something inside me knew I had to have her. Her owner lost her home and was moving into her bf condo that doesn't allow pets. She was so heartbroken. Between Compassion Pug Rescue, Central Florida Pug Rescue and Have A Heart Rescue, we arranged getting her to me for me to be a hospice home for Snickers under CFPR. I've been in contact with her owner from day one and left my home open to them to come any time. They came up for her Sweet 16 birthday in April. We had Snickers for 7 months but it was so worth it. I saw her as my own and my husband was very protective of her. Snickers made us laugh and smile every day.

She came in with a severe UTI in Jan. and we got it treated. We notice by end of summer she was drinking and peeing alot again. A urinalysis and culture was done and she had 3 different bacteria that was in her bladder. Testing was done with different antibiotics and each one (Cephaliexin, Cirproflaxin, Baytril, etc) would treat one and not the other or was sensitive to it. The doc tried Tribrissen which is some kind of sulfer antibiotic and it penetrates anything and a possible side affect was dry eyes. Since she was 16, dry eyes was not a problem as I have 2 of my own with it. We had her on it for 2 days and by that evening she began vomitting and couldnt hold down anything she took in.

We had Snickie at the vets AT 10 Sat. AM and fill in doc gave her an anti vomitting shot, penacillin shot, something else and they put some water packs under her skin. Said if she did not feel well by 5 to get her to the ER. She stopped vomitting was extremely lethargic. I took her to the ER vet and met a CFPR board member there for support. They did bloodwork and showed her liver values off the charts and xrays showing nothing. Doc suggest she had "cancer" and sugggested euthanizing her. I wasn't convinced to do that yet and he said to take her home to think about it. I laid with her all night, barely sleeping, keeping a watch on her. She was so exhausted. By Sun AM, after calling most of the board member and our medical coordinator, I convinced the board she did not cancer and that its the Tribressen that cause it. I took her back to the ER vet 11ma Sun and another vet gave me the same crap. I told them I dont care and that CFPR was paying for it and to put her on an IV and with antibiotics. At least I'm going to fight to get her well and not give up on my noodle.

With only a few hours sleep, I headed home to rest and a volunteer went by at 1 to check on her. She seemed to be hanging in there. I slept for 2 hours and woke up at 4. Snickie's former owner texted me around 4:15 and asked how she was doing. While texting back to him, the ER called and said her heart was failing. I told them I am on my way and try to get her to hang on. I did tell them DNR her because I dont want her to suffer or bring her back just to die again. They called back in a minute and said she passed. I got down there in 20 minutes because of traffic. I was numb the whole time.

I loved that little girl. She was the world to me and my husband. Though she was hospice, she was also our family. If my tribute video can convince someone to adopt or foster a senior, then I did my part in her honor. Crying or Very sad

Sharon, I am so sorry. She was a wonderful old girl, and will be in your heart forever. I will say a prayer for her.
