So....I guess my fostering break is over

Post  northernwitch on 10/31/2011, 9:02 pm

This old man was brought into the local shelter as a stray. Uh huh. Sure. We find that lots of owners bring in their dogs claiming they are strays. Anyway, his stray hold is up on the 2nd of November and I just can't leave him there. So he'll come here. We'll see if he's 13 or not. the shelter is not good at age estimates, but my vet is quite good at it.

And so I'm also assuming I have a permanent dog given his age. We'll see what the deal is with that swollen looking eye lid....

Not just above his eye, but parts of his nose roll and muzzle look pinkish, too.

Is that an abrasion on one side of his nose roll? And another under the "lumped" eye?

Pictures can be soooooo frustrating sometimes. If he is not genuinely lost and his family don't reclaim him, then he is blessed to go to you Blanche. That looks like a powerful tongue!

Of course, that means that Tank will be surplus and will have to come to me!!! Very Happy

I was wondering if you would be getting him when I saw him posted as a stray.

So glad that he will be finding his way into your home and heart !

That's what I was thinking too. Either way, he is precious. Thanks for springing him, Blanche!

That's how I got Beau. He was sitting in a shelter & no one wanted an old deaf pug.

Glad this old man found you!

Yeah, the picture is really frustrating. the shelter is a good one, but a bit of a haul so I haven't gone up to see him. And it's doubtful he's really a stray. Most of the dogs brought in by people as a stray aren't. The owner just doesn't want to admit to dumping the dog or pay the surrender fee.

A handsome old gentleman indeed. I agree that many, many older animals brought to shelters as "strays" are indeed being surrendered by their owners. I think most are trying to avoid perceived judgment.

He'll be so glad to be in a nice warm home again. Way to go, Blanche.
