Need some healthy vibes for our newest rescue
I didn't want to take away from Kim in the Prayers/Vibes section. But if you have any left over, our newest rescue, Monkey, could use some. He was a "stray" at a shelter and developed what we think is pneumonia. the shelter has neither the funds nor the facility to manage him and was going to euthanize him if an alternative couldn't be found. We said we'd take him. His transport was today. Thankfully, the last leg of his transport (about 3+ hours total transport) was provided by Vicki who adopted Leila. Vicki is a vet tech and works at an emergency clinic. I asked her to assess him and let me know if we needed to divert him to the Emergency Clinic. And she called and we did take him directly to the ER. He's a sad little monkey and pretty sick.
We're getting murdered in vet costs as we (1) are full with 13 dogs and (2) have a bunch that aren't going to be cheap. I realize that 13 dogs isn't a lot for many of you involved with the US pug rescue system, but it's a lot of dogs for us when so many have medical issues.
So give this little man a thought if you can. We think he's 2 or 3.

Poor chap, 13 dogs is a lot, esp when all need medical. I hope the guy can catch a break and be well soon.

It's as much about the costs as the number. Monkey could run us $2,000 for 48 hours of care depending on what has to happen. And we have Brian who has terrible knees and may have equally terrible hips. He's probably going to run us five grand for the knees alone. And Kaia needs a knee done and nares done (probably 2 grand there). And we have a very ill old guy, with advanced Cushing's and dementia.

We'll see what the VEC says. I suspect he may have multiple health issues--he has a very roached back and a decidedly odd gait. Poor little muffin.
And sorry to be whining, folks. Wasn't meant so much for me but for all of us in rescue who just seem to always be under the gun for space and money. It's frustrating.

I am so sorry to hear this Blanche... I hope this little fellow can feel better very soon, and hopefully within the limits of affordability... I will be sending good thoughts to him, and to you that your burdens will ease...

Got an update late last night. He's on IV everything as he was dehydrated. They think it's aspirate pneumonia, but definitely pneumonia. He did eat a little bit on his own, but not much. They've also put him in isolation to be safe. Coming from the shelter, they didn't want to risk exposing their other patients to anything.

What a sweet, sweet (but sad) face. Hoping he does really well.

He got a very good update today. Eating and much more energetic. they want to keep him another day just to ensure no set backs--with which I heartily concurred. Blood work was good except for ALP which was a bit off but they didn't seem worried about that currently. Something to watch, but they weren't overly concerned at this point.
So looks like the little man is on the road.

Looks like our poorly Monkey man is going to be sprung from the ER hospital today and go to his foster home. YAY for the little trooper.
Many thanks for the thoughts and positive karma for this hard luck little boy.

Excellent news! He's super cute, I am glad he seems to be on the mend.

What a little soldier! He'll get all the TLC he needs in his foster home. Hooray for the ER clinic who fixed him up!

Good news! I'll keep my fingers crossed that he doesn't have any horrible congenital issues.

He's in his foster home and doing pretty well. His back legs though.......not looking good. He's either got rotten knees or hips or both. Very odd stance and gait. But that is another worry for another day.
