Colorado people looking for a pug?

Post  Saira on 12/15/2011, 5:36 pm

Long shot I know-but, we got an email from the local rescue about a 6 year old female. She needs to be an only dog. Unfortunately, we can't take her in as all our fosters have other dogs and honestly, we're drowning as is. So I thought I'd post here, and see if any of you had CO contacts who may need a puggy girl. I have a pic I can post when I get home.

The CO rescue is the one who contacted us. They can't take her.

Little off topic here, but what is it with all of the pugs who need to be only dogs lately? We have a couple right now & then one waiting to come in. The ones that we have now have to be kept "segregated" because nobody who volunteers/fosters doesn't have other pets. That 11 1/2 year old boy Spike that I picked up the other night was totally un-socialized and needs to be an only too. I've never seen so many in all of my years with the rescue. They're really hard for us to find homes for too. It's frustrating.

Brenda, I agree-we have seen a lot more too, we have a couple already in that need to be only dogs, which is why we just don't have any room for another one. And not just "diva dogs" but dogs that really do need to be only dogs. I guess it's one of the many joys of backyard breeders cashing in on a popular breed. Ugh. And yes, it's extremely hard to figure out where to place those dogs.

I totally agree. The breed's popularity is leading to an erosion of that fantastic, dog- and kid-friendly pug personality we all love so much (at least among BYB pugs, puppy mill offspring, etc., which compose the vast majority of the pugs rescues take in). Indiscriminate for-profit breeding doesn't tend to factor in temperament when deciding which dogs should reproduce.

Cocker spaniels used to be, almost across the board, wonderful family dogs once upon a time. They got ruined by their popularity years ago. It scares me to think that pugs might go the same way.
