I've Been Asked to Foster!
I've done my share of rescue but I've never fostered a dog for very long. There is a rescue in LA that rescues small dogs from Korea that are raised for meat. They have a girl pug who is recovering from LP surgery and will be arriving from Korea next week She is about one year old and her name is Yon-Seng. They need foster homes and asked me because I have experience with LP recovery (plus I have bery good dog knowledge).
It's not a done deal yet and it may be temporary, but she sure is a cutie pie!

I'll keep you updated on what happens.

She's a cutie! I hope it works out. What a great rescue, I bet it takes a lot of effort.

She is SO cute, I am scared to know how she is getting here, but I guess anything is better than being raised for meat, poor thing. She is cute and definately a bit of a different pug look than we are used to seeing here!

Oh, she's so sweet! What a wonderful thing you're doing. Disgusting to think what would have happened to her but people like you give her a chance to have a fabulous life--GOOD JOB
What's her name?

The name she has been given is Yon-Seng. I don't know if it has a translated meaning yet, but I asked in my last email. (Chris' bad joke was that we re-name her after a famous LA Korean/Mexican roach coach named Koji BBQ. I'm glad it was over the phone, because I would've hit him.)
I've talked to the rescue group via email a few times today. She is coming in cargo on Korean or Asiatic Air. I immediately expressed concern about her being in cargo, but I was told that they have a air conditioned cargo area where they are transported. They have transported 6 pugs and a Frenchie this way with no problems. She is also arriving with another puppy (don't know the breed). This goes against everything I've heard about air transport though, so keep her in your thoughts.
I talked to Chris some more as well as the rescue and it looks like we are a go. I will get her either next Tuesday or Wednesday. I am meeting them at the airport about 2:30 or 3, then we will go to the vet for a check up and then she will come home with me. I'm interested to see her pre-op xrays as well as get the vets thoughts on her age. She is no more than 2 according to the rescue. She looks young to me. She has been puppy pad trained, so I will be doing some potty training. Been there, done that! Thank GOD for hardwood floors!
When she is healed (and probably a bit more potty trained, she will be up for adoption. Of course, my record for adopting out cats isn't very good, so let's hope I do a better job with this pug.
I HOPE I've learned a lot more about pugs since I got Thurston - but I have a feeling I'm going to be putting my experience to the test. I can't wait!

I didn't even know they had rescues that worked with overseas places like that. How horrible for her to have been raised for meat, but I'm glad she's safe now. You are an angel for taking her in. She's adorable.

I got an email today that they rescue recieved an great application for the girl and they are willing to rehabilitate her. I may not end up with her after all. But, they do have another pug girl coming at the same time, so I may end up with her. It's so confusing! I guess I'll see what happens next Tuesday.

I just scooped Penny up and gave her a huge hug and some treats - raised for meat????? Yikes! She is awfully cute, and very lucky to be landing in your foster arms. You are going to be a wonderful foster mom, and if you are a failed foster mom, well, so it goes. She will stay in her perfect home.

Re: I've Been Asked to Foster!
I WILL be getting a pug this Tuesday to foster. I still don't know which one. It will either be Yon-Seng or another girl who is 2-3 years old named Hannah. Hannah also had LP surgery but has had longer to recover. I think both dogs have possible forever homes in the works, so it may be short term. What ever it is, I will post pictures and details. I'm looking forward to it!

Re: I've Been Asked to Foster!
I'm leaving in about 10 minutes to go to LAX to pick up my foster. I'm not getting the one I posted pics of - she is going directly to her forever home. But, I am getting a girl named Hannah that is 2-3 years old and had LP surgery (but not as recently as the girl I thought I was going to get).
I'll post pics when I get home. Airport first, vet second (in Culver City), hours on the 405 coming home at rush hour third.
