All going well so far. Lisa sent me some pictures of Mr. Fatty Burbank. I'll post later tonight after Logan is in bed. I think Lisa is soaking in a bathtub somewhere trying to relax.

I'm CLEAN! I'm CLEAN! You don't know how good it feels to be CLEAN!
I've got the photos covered, Kendi.
This is the pug now known to me as Burbank Fats. Why Burbank Fats? Well, he weighs in at 43 pounds!!!!!! The black pug in the picture is 18:

Compare to 18 pounds!

Re: LA Rescue stuff
OK, I need some advice. I was having snuggle time with Thurston and just starting to relax when the phone rang. It was Burbank Fats' temporary foster mommy. She is concerned about Fats' loud panting and that his eyes are red. She doesn't want to foster him and wants to either board him somewhere or take him to the vet. She doesn't think she can sleep. I sent an email to San Diego and copied Kendie and Stephanie from Happy Ending, but I'm not sure what to do in this situation.
Please, oh rescue sages, tell me what to do.

Yikes! of course this stuff always strikes when everything is closed, huh? We have had a couple of emergency cases where we did board them-we also board the ones we pull from our kill shelter for a few days at the vet's. Perhaps that could be the best bet overall, but I know that costs $$. However, that would still mean she'd have to keep him at least overnight. I am not sure what boarding costs are there.
Is she worried that something might happen to him, or more that she is afraid of having her own pugs be around him if there is something wrong? If it's the latter, I'd suggest keeping him in a separate room gated off.

I am also concerned because I don't have the authority to make these types of monitory decisions for rescue.
I sent her a follow up email and said this:
I sent an email to San Diego asking them for advice. Meanwhile, make sure the boy isn't too hot. He's VERY overweight and has been through a lot of trauma over the past couple of days. Pugs are pretty sensitive creatures and I'm sure he's suffering from a bit of stress which I'm sure is exacerbated by the heat. Try putting a bit of ice in a baggie, wrap it in a towel and apply it to his neck for about 20 minutes. This may cool him down a bit as well as make him more comfortable.
I'll let you know when I hear something back from rescue.
There's not really anything I can do tonight. He may just be stressed and that is all - or there may be something really wrong with him. It is difficult to tell - especially with rescue dogs. Who knows why they were dumped.

Your email was good-he probably will calm down soon and hopefully she can get some sleep for tonight. Plus if she's stressed, that is probably something he is picking up on. Sometimes just transportation itself is really hard on them-we have had a few pugs that have totally stressed themselves out in the car.
And shame on his original owners for letting him get that heavy.
Re: LA Rescue stuff
Lisa, I sent you an email back. I'm crossing my fingers that he will be calmer in the morning and the emergency will be over. Hopefully Suzi will have something to suggest. Worst case, hopefully we can find a rescue vet who will cut a good deal, I'll give you my credit card, and we'll just figure the money thing out later. But let's just hope that foster mom and Burbank Fats have a good night. He might just need some rest in some cool AC. Let me know what you hear in the morning.
Sarina, if Clothes4Pugs has some money and if Suzi from San Diego Pug Rescue sends an application, do you think they might be approved for a donation earmarked for Burbank Fats' boarding until Saturday night or Sunday morning? As a last resort, I'm pretty sure I can convince Suzi to pay for boarding if she's getting a donation to cover it. And if Lisa could twist a vet's arm to discount some boarding as a last resort? Just a thought . . . .

We can usually approve requests with in 48hrs. our bank account will be set up on Saturday but we do have funds in paypal that we can send over. Just need an application and then they will have to fax or email us a copy of their 501c3.

Kendie, if you guys do have to take him to a vet, could you email or text me the name/number of it? I will make donation to the vet to the account if he does have to be boarded.

Re: LA Rescue stuff
All of the behaviour you are describing is likely stress. And in an overweight dog, the panting is just louder, longer and more obvious. Yes, he's a fatty, but there's hope as he actually still has a waist!
We see pacing, panting, etc all the time in rescue--especially if the dog has been in the shelter system.
Hope he settles down a bit.
And forgive me--but I'm a big old cranky pants these days--but why did the foster person say she'd take him and then bail within the first 12 hours? That would annoy me, frankly.

Re: LA Rescue stuff
I have some terrible news.
I got a call from Stephanie with Happy Ending this morning. His foster mom said Fats had stopped breathing sometime during the night and has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. I've pretty distraught right now, but I need to make arrangements for him to be transported to a vet for cremation. I think Stephanie is going to go to the foster Mom's house and pick him up and take him to the rescue's vet which is nearby. I need to find out how much that will cost. Stephanie can change it to her rescue, but I will need to reimburse her.
Obviously there was something else going on with Fats. Probably a collapsed trachea or something similar.
Meanwhile, my friend Matt is at the shelter picking up Petunia. Let's cross our fingers that we don't end up with another tragedy before she can get to San Diego. Matt would be absolutely devastated and I would feel terrible putting him in this position.
