Re: LA Rescue stuff
OMG! That poor boy!!! I am sure he was totally stressed out. Shame on his *&^%$%^^&* "owners" for allowing him to get like that and dump him. I am so sorry rescue couldn't help him.

That is so sad, to have gone through all that effort and have such a terrible ending.
Shame on his owners, I'm sorry everyone had to go through that. You worked so hard, I hope his last few hours were happy ones.

I have to feel good that at least he died in a home and not at the shelter. He was found in the hills above Burbank. He was obviously dumped and could have easily been coyote food. That would have been a much more terrible ending.

Re: LA Rescue stuff
Yes he had a happy ending, I am just devastated to hear this new after seeing his happy smiling face last night. Shame on his owners, surely his early death could have been prevented, not by you or rescue, but by the people that let him get that f-a-t. :(
Ugh, people suck, but you guys, well gals are awesome!

The longer I am from the shock of the terrible new, the madder I get at the person who overfed their dog, probably walked him on a collar (hence the collapsed trachea) and then dumped him in the hills. People suck. I sure hope there is karma.

Re: LA Rescue stuff
Shit. I'm very sorry, Lisa and for the foster mom. We had this happen--almost the same situation--badly overweight dog, really stressed and she also was in heat--she had a heart attack and died within the first 24 hours. She was with a vet tech and there was absolutely nothing that could have been done, really. Probably the same with Burbank Fats.
Please let the foster mom know that there was likely nothing she could have done or not done that would have changed this outcome.

Oh... I am so sorry to read this sad news. I feel so bad for the foster mom, but at least he knew what it felt like to be clean and comfortable in his last hours, and not passing away in a cold and dirty cage. A candle will be lit for this sweet boy. Thank you to everyone that was involved with this... it was an amazing group effort. I want to snuggle with my hospice pugs a little closer right now.

Re: LA Rescue stuff
I just got an email from Stephanie:
I'm going to chip in for his cremation even though she said she is not looking for anything. She has really gone above and beyond with this poor big man. If you would like to help out, make a donation directly to Happy Ending Rescue. http://www.happyendingrescue.org/
Hi Lisa
I just got back from the vet. Sorry I missed your call. My husband came along with me so he was able to lift his crate and put it in the back of my car. Thank you for leaving a voice message asking if I could lift him :)
He looked so peaceful like he was sleeping.
He will be cremated and his ashes will be in a little tin box. It'll be ready in about 10 days. I was thinking of spreading his ashes somewhere nice, would you like to join me? The cremation fee was about $130 with the rescue discount. The other option was have the city dispose of him (about $65) but I didn't want that. I'm not looking for a donation for the fees, I just feel horrible that he had to go like this. The doctor also said it might have been a heat stroke. If he was hot during the day his body temperature/blood circulation can still be effected for hours and since he is such a big guy it also could have been anything :(

Re: LA Rescue stuff
Lisa, Stephanie from Happy Ending sounds like such an amazing person. At the end of the day, everyone did the best they could for Burbank Fats and at least he was in a home for his last moments.
I am making a donation now to Happy Ending to help pay for some of the shelter fee and cremation cost. By my math, they have fronted about $180 towards Burbank Fats. For those of you who are able and who offered, I'm sure they would appreciate whatever you are able to contribute. Perhaps the next time (and we all know there will be a next time), they will be just as generous with their time and volunteers and we will can have a happy ending.
As for Petunia, I just sent out an emal to all the transporters and it looks like we are a "go" for all 3 legs this Sunday. The San Diego foster mom is a real doll. She is supposed to be at a wedding by 4pm on Sunday, but she said, if you can't make it earlier, we'll just skip the wedding. How's that for priorities?
So we've still got some work to do, but we'll get it done. Thanks so much Lisa for sticking with this and making it happen.

Oh dear God Lisa, this has got to be the most traumatic rescue effort ever. Losing two out of the three - those poor, sweet little guys. Your efforts in all of this have been OUTSTANDING. The blame is so squarely on the shoulders of the people who dumped them KNOWING they had major health issues. This is beyond heartbreaking. You are an angel Lisa.
I want to send money to you as I know you're out of pocket - do you have a paypal account?

I'll be making a donation or two tomorrow when I get paid. I'm still trying to figure out who's contributed/contributing to all these efforts so I can figure out where to send my Paypal. By my count, we have Lisa, Happy Ending Rescue, Kendie?, DFWPR, San Diego PR?, anyone else? Did I get too many?

Please don't send me money. Send anything you wish to happyending.org who has been wonderful with their work with Burbank Fats (not to mention Kimchi), Pug Rescue of San Diego pugsandiego.com who will get Petunia or to my friend Matt who is fostering Petunia until Sunday (paypal=coastermatt@dslextreme.com).
I'm going to send a thank you card to Remi (the foster Mom who had to deal with poor Fats death this morning). If anyone would like her address, PM me.
I just got an IM from Matt:
Petunia has her own bed, right next to Lucy and Ethel. Lucy has stopped barking at her, in fact, the three of them shared a walk and some poop and sniff time together a bit ago. She seems to respond to commands. She has some trouble with her hip - She kind of slides out from time to time when walking.
As for me, I'm ok My anger towards bad dog owners continues, of course. This is the second dog that I've been involved in rescuing that has died. Sweetie Petey died from a collapsed trachea a week after he got to San Diego. I wish people would just take responsibility for their dogs in sickness and in health. I'm glad I will be working at store soon where I can help further education about pet ownership.
Thank you all for your donations. I am blessed to be surrounded by wonderful people who truly care about rescue - and especially Kendie who, even with a blown knee, is driving to San Diego with Petunia on Sunday.
Lucy and Ethel are their dogs that they rescued from a client of mine who was going to dump them. They are Pom/Chi sisters and adorable girls.

Totally agree! Lisa, I would love Remi's address when you have a chance. I'd love to send her a thank you card.
And Matt's email to you made me smile. So glad Petunia is fitting in with the rest of the family and hopefully the next few days should go pretty smoothly. I heard back from Matt and Jeff today and they are totally coordinated for Leg 1. My brother will be at your place by noon. I'll give him my travel crate.
