Please light a candle for Charlie
When our vet got in to her office today, Charlie had not gotten any better. The rest of his blood work results came back and in addition to kidney failure he also had accute pancreatitis. Rebecca was taking another hospice pug in to the vet and said Charlie was listless and looked terrible, so we made the decision to send him to the bridge.
He was laid on a blanket that he had from home and that he loved, and Rebecca and I petted him and kissed him and told him how loved he was and what a good boy he was. He passed quickly and quietly.
He had almost 4 good years after having so many MCT's. His foster family took him to the beach and camping and even to Yosemite. Charlie was much loved and he so loved every day he had on this earth.
Please keep Charlie and his foster Mom and Dad, Trisha and Stephen, in your thoughts and prayers if you do that sort of thing.
And God Bless Rebecca for being there with me too....

It was such a rough and emotional day. Bless little Charlie. He was an angel. Peachy ,my hospice pug, sniffed him and told him goodbye. It is never easy when this day comes. Roxane, he was ready and the bridge just gained a darling little boy.
We have some bad news on Peachy, but we will post that in another thread.

I am so sorry. Sounds like he had the most wonderful life being a Pugsaver's Pug and couldn't have been loved more.

I couldn't reach you earlier, Roxane, but I figured this was what your call was about. Charlie was special to me because he was from Merced (like SugarRay, Miss Gracie and me)... even though I don't think I ever actually met him.
Bless you and Rebecca for being there for Charlie to send him on his way.

Remembering Charlie

Charlie had a lot more gray than he did in this picture. He was just a grand old man.
Here is his bio....
Update March 2008:
After completing all of my chemotherapy, I have had no more of those nasty mast cells! I recently had a dental and my health is great and I'm ready to be adopted! Everyone says I'm a real sweetie, even the folks who work at the vet's office. I have them wrapped around my little paw!
Update May 2006:
Charlie had several mast cell tumors removed only to have them come back in large numbers. After a workup at University of California at Davis Veterinary Teaching Hospital Oncology Center, it was determined that the best thing for Charlie would be a 6 month regimen of chemotherapy. Luckily chemotherapy for dogs does not make them sick like it does in people, and after a month, Charlie is happy as can be. The cost to PugSavers is going to be about $300.00 a month or more, but if it can mean a good prognosis for Charlie, as his doctors seem to think, then it is money well spent. Hi, my name is Charlie. I was turned into the Merced county pound as a stray just before Christmas. I waited for someone to claim me, but they never came. They said I only had a few days left at the pound. Luckily Pugsavers was contacted and I am now in a nice warm foster home.
I'm probably between 6 and 8 years old and I have a few little lumps and bumps that PugSavers is going to have removed, and they are also going to have my teeth cleaned. My foster parents will sure appreciate that as it will make my breath much better!
I get along well with dogs and cats. I have a basically calm demeanor but also have spunk now and then. I love to play with stuffed toys and especially love snuggling when its bed time. I am looking for a forever home, someone to snuggle with forever. Will you give me a chance?
