Diesel's shivering

Post  dieselsmom on 10/18/2009, 5:47 pm

I just noticed that Diesel was laying here in bed with me shaking the whole bed because he's shivering. I told Josh something is wrong with him and Josh tells me "he always does that." Josh says when he gets home from work most days, after everyone calms down, D will lay on the couch and shiver like that for 10 minutes or so. I asked if it's a recent thing; he says he doesn't know.

So I'll call the vet this week and make an appointment for a checkup for him. I don't see any reason why he'd be in pain - doesn't seem hurt at all. Are there any other reasons he would be shivering? Any other thoughts? Other than shivering, he is acting like his normal self.

Does he respond to you when he is shivering? How long since he's eaten? It can be a sign of hypoglycemia. Fingers and paws crossed that nothing is wrong with him.

Jackson only shivers when he's in pain. Usually because he's eaten some fabric thing that he shouldn't have. Rolling Eyes

It can be a sign of pain, as well.
Mocha had an episode, like that, that lasted about 24 hours. I took him to the emergency vet and they checked his vital signs and sent us home. He was fine late that day.

I've only known shivering to be a sign of pain. Which is odd because I can't imagine why he'd be in pain. And after more questioning, Josh says he's noticed it for months now. I think by now we'd know if something were causing him pain.

The hypoglycemia is a possibility - since it was before they ate dinner. And Josh said he's only noticed it when Diesel hasn't yet eaten dinner. Maybe he's needing to eat more than twice a day. My Diesel really is a delicate little flower.

I still am going to call his vet this week and take him in for a checkup, just to make sure everything is ok.

Hopefully he's just a hungry monkey and not anything health wise is going on.

LuLu shakes when she's hungry or her leg shakes sometimes when it's her weaker leg she is slumping on.

Sorry, me being a putz again and forgot to update. I have an appointment with the vet on Saturday just to give him a good checkup. I'll see if he wants to do bloodwork or not. Josh is out of town this week, so I don't know if he's been better or not. Cuz when I walk in the door, all hell breaks loose and they get fed right away just to shut them up!!

my $0.02 - shivering in BTs can be a "learned" behavior.. I met one who shivered whenever she was on the floor looking up at you.. scoop her up into your arms... cooing and making a big deal over her.. not a shiver to be seen!

Fingers, toes and paws crossed that it is not anything even remotely serious. Give Mr. Handsome Diesel a hug from me, and give yourself a hug from me and Lady Penny. hug dog Hug

Oh trust me, Diesel has learned the trembling for attention thing - he uses it when he goes to the vet and has done it since he was a baby. He sits on my lap in the waiting room and trembles. All the girls at the front desk oohh and ahhh over him and how "scared" he is. I tell them, nope, not scared, just doing it because you all keep oohhing and ahhhing over him!

Glad we have an appointment on Saturday anyway, since he tweaked his front leg earlier this week and it still seems to be bothering him, so we'll get a couple things checked out!

Shivers

Post  Guest on 11/7/2009, 4:59 pm

My youngest "Belle" shivers anytime she rides in a car unless ofcourse she rides in your lap then the world is wonderful. She will also shiver when our daughter comes home from college, I'm thinking Belle's shivers are just a showing of excitement.
