A dentally challenged Death Pom?

Post  northernwitch on 11/3/2009, 1:11 pm

Well, Miss Lola is going in for what looks like a major dental on Monday. She's been having some trouble for a couple of weeks and I finally decided that it is likely less about gastric issues (although she has those, too) and more about teeth. And sure enough, when my vet got a good look at her back teeth, it wasn't pretty.

I should be happy that I got her to age 13 with all her teeth but one in her head, but I suspect she's going to be dentally challenged after her dental--and I'll be fiscally challenged like as not.

Looks like her really good biting teeth are all okay, however......

I have a feeling that Lola would be able to bite with only one tooth in her mouth. What I want to know is how the vet was able to check out her back teeth and still have all the fingers on his/her hand!

Maybe whatever teeth are left afterward, they can file to a nice sharp point to further serve her purposes!!

Thelma had a dental when she was 13.5 yrs young. She basically had the rest of her teeth out then. She still stole kibble from everyone, even though I was feeding her a soft diet. *LOL* Silly pug!

(((Marci))) I miss her too, but no worries, she is channeling thru Chloe. Anytime Chloe is super-bossy to the boys, I tell her to stop channeling Thelma. *LOL*

Me, too. I miss both those girls, but Thelma was a pistol.

Well, whatever is left, I'm sure she'll put to good use. I feel badly that her back teeth are in such terrible shape. I do brush their teeth, but brushing Lola's teeth has always involved a fair bit of swearing on both of our parts and usually some bleeding on my part.

Nell just had a ton of teeth pulled but didn't lose any of her fightin' teeth. Always seems to work out that way. Good vibes for Lola on Monday!

Good thoughts for the dental and the recovery afterwards! I tell Otto that if he keeps having teeth pulled, he's going to wind up looking like Ollie from "Kukla, Fran and Ollie"....I wouldn't tell that to Lola, though. She'd probably bite me for saying it.

But Blanche, it IS cheating if you do it while she's under. I can't wait to see what color she sports this year!
LOL

Prayers out to dear Lola. She's my favorite Pom Pug!
