Please help raise funds to help Winston!!

Post  TNPUGMOMOF3 on 11/5/2009, 9:41 am

Winston is a pug that a pug friend in Nashville, Holli, and I busted out of the shelter so that he would not be euthanized. He is an older guy, 8ish we think who has some spine problems. He cannot tell when he has to poop or pee and has some issues with walking in his back legs. He is a sweet and happy guy. He is being fostered in Nashville by a MAPR foster home that specializes in taking care of these older and more difficult pugs that have medical issues. His foster mom took him to a UT specialist to have him evaluated with her own money because MAPR, much like all the other rescues, is inundated with pugs and is stretched to the limits. The specialist thinks it's a spinal cord problem between T3 and L3. Not sure if it is a ruptured disc, tumor or even from a stroke or birth defect. The initial testing will cost between $1500-$1800 and that is the MRI, spinal fluids, blood work, x-rays, etc. While is under for the MRI, if they find a problem that is repairable, they will do the surgery right then and that is estimated to cost $3200-$3500. They need all the money upfront just in case he needs corrective surgery.

MAPR is having fundraisers especially for Winston. One is that they are selling PUG bumper stickers through Simple Dog. Really nice ones!! They are $10 each and $6.50 of that goes to MAPR for Winston.

Also if you donate directly to MAPR, every $10 donation will enter you to win an original watercolor painted by Linda L. Martin.

I know times are tough, but even a $5 donation or just one bumper sticker can really help in getting this guy the help he needs and deserves. He spent the night at my house after we got him out of the shelter and he is just an angel. He is so quiet and sweet. He just wants a warm blanket and someone to cuddle up next too. I think he was used for breeding and was never able to get out of his cage and that his spinal problems are related to that. He had bad atrophy in his back end. He was filthy and just loved getting a warm bath. I just want him to have the best life possible, because he obviously hasn't experienced much good in his life up to this point. Thanks!

I've got some extra money from bed sales that I'll send to MAPR.

Awwww, thanks Rach!! Very sweet of you! He is a great pug and I can't wait to hear about when he is doing so much better. I don't think he's as old as the shelter thought he was, he's just been neglected.

Also, my friend Cindy should be contacting you about some beds too, if she hasn't already!
