Pug eye help.........
My senior pug boy, Ty has moderate PK and cloudy eyes. I have prescription ointment that I put in his eyes 2-3 times a day. He does not have much goopy discharge. The problem is that it is always moist and reddish looking under his eyes.
In the area close to his whiskers ther will be little pieces of hard stuff about the length of an eyelash. I can just wipe it off with a clean soft cloth.
Do you think these symptoms are caused by the PK? Is the ointment making the eye area moist? Is this harmful for him or just unsightly for me to look at?
I used some tear stain liquid that I bought at Petco but it did nothing!
Comments or suggestions welcome.
I adopted this sweet old senior about a year ago. He was skinny, had a horrible cough, was afraid to ride in the car, and stiffened when I went to pick him up. He is now a happy, mostly healthy (he can't hear and has declining eyesight) velcro pug and I cannot imagine life without him.

Re: Pug eye help.........
What oinment are you using? Can you post a picture of his eyes? I would talk to your vet and see if they think it is just a result of the meds or if you can see about another medication. Or maybe go down to 1-2 x a day vs. the 3-4. I would see what your vet thinks first because his eye sight is your primary concern. Sometimes my pugs will have watery eyes during allergy season and then it will go away. Could it be just the time of year? I don't really have an answer, but maybe these questions can help you with talking to your vet.

Re: Pug eye help.........
Just a thought, but could it be from his nose wrinkle?
When I was treating Otto's eye ulcer recently, his nose wrinkle developed a discharge because the drops and ointments were collecting there, and I wasn't cleaning it as much as usual because I didn't want to be doing that while I was treating the eyes 5x a day.
So now the eye is healed and we're working on clearing up the nose wrinkle.
