Tank's blood work

Post  northernwitch on 11/10/2009, 7:02 pm

After months and months of unexplained indications of anemia in Tank's blood work, I'm happy to say that we finally got normal blood results for the old man. He's consistently had anemia indicators since April and his liver enzymes have been wonky. I did some diet tinkering and he's been on antibiotics for a staph infection on his skin and today we finally got normal results. He has a couple of things that are a bit off, but none of them are the items we were worried about and none of them are badly out of whack.

This is a huge relief to me as I've been pretty worried that we were entering into some long protracted battle with anemia.

YAY for good blood work.

poor old sod will be very glad not to have me lifting up his lips and looking at his gums for paleness every day or going through his poop with a stick looking for blood.

Obsessive? No, not me.

Poor guy. If I wasn't pulling up his lips to look at his gums, I was pulling down his eyelids to look at his schlera. We just couldn't figure out why he was testing as anemic. We still don't know why, but at least it's stopped for now. He packed on a kg of weight since August, but he's not obese and he's a big guy. For awhile there he was losing weight pretty quickly and I was even more worried than my usual level of barely controlled paranoia. So I'll watch that he doesn't get any heavier.

I'd love to take credit for it, but I can't. For all I know, it was just a series of weird results that were self limiting. Still don't know why his platelet count continues to be high.
