Can we show some love for my rescue friends?
They're the ones who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make the magic happen.
How about we post some pics of our rescued pugs? Then when the frustrations hit and there's yet another sad story, we'll have some pictures to go to and be reminded of the successes.

Thank you so much to all the rescue folks out there. You all take so much crap and maintain your composure (in public anyway). I don't know how you do it. I just heard a recent story that has me wanting to fly off the handle and smack a biatch. Yet, the rescue kept their composure and handled the situation wonderfully.
Here is my little rescue diva, Miss Mattie Mae. She's been with us 3 years now and I love her more and more each day.

This is my first foster now known as Lilly. For all the people who have been doing this for years a huge kuddos to you, I only fosterd once so far and it was really hard emotionally.

Here's my only well behaved child, Lucy. She's the sweetest little thing ever. This is an older pic but one of my faves.

My senior rescues..... But this is what happens since I prefer to adopt seniors...
I got Dino & Butchie from Little Angels Pug Rescue in July of 2001
Dino (RIP January, 2003)

Butchie was his life-long buddy (RIP Aug, 2004)
Gumpy (RIP May, 2008)

--------------------------------------------
I work hours and hours for Polar Pug Rescue. My stuff is almost always behind the scenes.
Yesterday I was at Vickie's place of business giving her an update on stuff I'd done on the Web when a couple who'd adopted a puggle a few weeks ago brought her back. She was the type of dog who should be crated when they are gone, but they refused to crate her, and wondered why she was jumping on the table knocking things off.
I will put her back on the site tonight.
Sigh... Rescue is rewarding, but plenty heartbreaking too...

Re: Can we show some love for my rescue friends?
" border="0" />Since I rescue more than just pugs, I'm including everyone. This is from 2004. My son, Tucker, Pete in his lap (our first pug from Peachy Pugs Rescue) and Bob on the ground also from Peachy Pugs. Scout is the border collie cross from the Toronto Humane Society in 1996. We lost Bob in Oct. 2006, Scout in April 2007 and Pete left us in 2008.
" border="0" />Another group shot of Pete and Bob on the sofa, Lola on the back and Scout on the floor. Lola I adopted from the SPCA in 2000 or 2001 (I'd have to check).
" border="0" />Hmm. Not sure why it's so small. this is Maude. She came to our rescue from Prairie Pugs and I adopted her. Lost her in 2009 to canine cognitive dysfunction. Former puppy mill girl. She broke my heart.
" border="0" />Hazel, also a puppy mill girl. Adopted from Pugalug in 2006. A force of Nature.
And you've seen Tank who I adopted in 2008 from the Pug Club of Canada rescue.
Re: Can we show some love for my rescue friends?
I don't know how to post pictures, but the pups in my avatar are all rescues.
Chyna is our pug girl who was also one of my fosters. After she almost died from an allergic reaction to her shots, I could not let her go so we adopted her. She came to us completely house trained and never had an accident until her spinal problems started. She is food aggressive so we have to watch her during feeding times.
Tinker is the reddish brown pug/brussels griffon mix who we adopted through Homeward Bound Pug Rescue. After Pugsly passed away, we got suckered by his cute puppy face and drove to OKC to adopt him. He was 3 months old at the time and almost killed us his first year of life. He turned a year old in May and is really a great little boy.
The hairy boy in our photo is Ruffy. He is a rough coat brussels griffon and found his way to the IL/MO Pug Rescue when his owners were moving and didn't want to take him. He is approx 2 yrs old and is great. He was added to our family after Taz passed away because Tinker needed a playmate.

" border="0" />Maudie. Her other picture didn't do her justice so I posted this one.
Re: Can we show some love for my rescue friends?
Ok here are my reasons for being involved with rescue and my reminders since both would have been put down without a rescue.
Mr. Indy Jones, one of the three loves (oh 4 if you count Ken) of my lives. He was only a year old and so pathetic looking when he came in, we picked him up the day after his hd surgery. I had no idea what to do, I just had the crazy idea of fostering and I got the call. Compared to Hooligan, who was BORN an old soul, Indy was ummm...a handful.

And the legendary Miss Sophie.
I couldn't resist this pic when she first came in. She was bad, bad, bad. She is still bad, bad, bad, but she is my little girl and we love her so much. She has Ken totally wrapped around her paws too, she can do no wrong in his eyes! We had no idea what her prognosis was, but here she is almost 2 years later, still as feisty and naughty as ever!

OH. MY. GOD. What an expression. Talk about your "Puss in Boots from Shrek" faces. Whatever that pug wants, give it to him.....

Re: Can we show some love for my rescue friends?
I didn't post Mattie's story. Matte was found wandering the streets in the heat of summer. She had lost most of her fur and was pretty food aggressive due to having to fight for food on the streets I suppose. She had a rabies tag and her owners were contacted, but never came to pick her up from the pound. Luckily, CFPR found her and after the pound insisted a few times that they didn't have a pug there, she was rescued. This is Mattie the day she was rescued from the pound:

I'm happy to say that Mattie is no longer food aggressive and is a perfect angel. It took time for her and Mack to warm up to each other, but with a lot of love and patience we made it work. I wouldn't trade her for the world and I'm so glad we took the time to bring her out of her shell.

Oh man, Sabra. What a turn around. She looks pitiful in the shelter pics.
And Donna--you are a liar. No way that little face with the big, sad eyes is a bad dog. Just no way.

Re: Can we show some love for my rescue friends?
Here's Toby Love Jones. The first pic just makes me laugh! And the second pic is where he would spend every minute of the day if possible. We call it "Toby's crack", because usually I'm sitting there and he lays in the crack between my leg and the arm of the chair.

Toby is from Prairie Pugs rescue. Kathy (HKPugs) was instrumental in getting Toby into our family. He has been with us for 3 years now. We think he was 8 when we adopted him, so that makes him 11 now. (My gosh, how did that happen?) I love him so much, and that face just melts my heart.

Re: Can we show some love for my rescue friends?

Sparks' own Lady Penny, Queen of the Dominatrixes.

In one of her favorite spots, the passenger seat when we are going somewhere. I think this was on the way from Connecticut back to Ohio on The Trip, and she was getting ready to scare off an evil truck.
Penny Lane came to me from PugSavers on August 2, 2005. She has become the pugshine of my life and she definitely has me wrapped around her paw and at her bark and call. When I got her, her ears were a mess and her coat was rather rough. With a whole lot of love and a great vet, she is now black velvet and, although she is deaf as a post, her ears are clean. I guess that counts for something. Every night when I go to sleep to her gentle little snore and every morning when I wake up to her not-so-gentle demand to have her breakfast, I thank Roxane and PugSavers for my Penny. I say that PugSavers saves the world, one pug at a time, but in reality, PugSavers saved me with one pug. I do love my little black diva!

Great thread!! Here's my rescue - Imi who came as a foster and never left. She helped me grieve when I lost Puck suddenly.
