Re: Can we show some love for my rescue friends?
Ok, had my Bullmastiff Junior. He was getting up in age and DH knew that if he passed and I did not have something to love when we got home, that I would be a disaster!! I wanted a pug, so after we moved to TN I found a hobby/BYB that had two puppies. She's had a littler for "family" and these were the two left. I wanted a female, so Lola came to live with us. She is not a rescue and the lady I got her from was very sweet and kind to her dogs. But Lola was the begining of the pug addiction.
I decided before Junior passed that although he loved Lola and would play with her he was old (9yrs) and couldn't "play" the way she wanted him too. So I started looking into another pug. I had joined Pug Stories and started to learn about rescue. I hadn't made the decision to get another yet, so when I was looking through the pet section of the Memphis paper I noticed a 2 1/2 yr old pug for adoption. She was not spayed and they wanted $250 and I thought that was wrong since you could get a puppy for that much here, so I sent the add and info to Memphis Pug Rescue. Ana contacted the add and went and got Bella that day on her lunch. She was in MS. She was ina outside kennel with another pug and two Boxers who were trampling all over her. Ana wanted to keep her, but her DH said they were at their limit and she went to a foster. Karen fostered her and Ana called me to tell me that she really wanted me to consider adopting Bella. She said she was a beautifull little back pug who really needed to learn what love was. I spoke with DH about her and we agreed to apply and let her and Lola meet. They also wanted to meet Junior to make sure he was not a threat. When they brought Bella over, she sauntered into the house like she owned it and never left. She'd not been inside at all before the rescue got her, but was adjusting well... She also did not understand the whole grass thing so would just poop on the concrete patio. No biggie, but I was determined to get her to appreciate a romp in the grass. I would pick her up and walk her to the far corner of the grass and make her work her way back all the while treating her!! She picked up on the goodness of grass pretty quickly. She now likes to sit in the grass in the sun and sunbathe often. She is SO my black DIVA pug. Did not know the history of the female black diva pug at the time, but it would not matter, she would teach me. Didn't understand toys either and we tried lots to see she might like...nothing....until we brought home a little tiny tennis ball....WOW!!! She squealed and chewed on that thing of hours. I remember when my DH looked at me and said I think we finally found what she likes...
I also had to try and get her to understand that when she was on my lap that is was ok for Junior, our Bullmastiff to come and visit. He would try to stick his head in my lap with her there and she would snap at him every time. Lucky for her he would back off, but we worked to stop that too.
Can't you just tell she is in charge....

A little grayer, but still so adorable!
My other rescue is Hank. Formerly Pork Chop. He was brought into a vet where SEPRA has a wonderfull foster mom working as a vet tech in Springfield, MO. They said they found him and weren't able to treat his problem. He had mange, demodex, bad. I was asked if I could foster him after Pugfest and I would pick him up there, I said sure. His foster mom April would also be going to Pugfest and already had two very young mange pugs that she was working with already, so I said sure. I had never delt with mange, but figured I could give it a shot! I saw him the Friday night before Pugfest in April's hotel room. He was what I now call a hot mess. Little scabby hairless thing. He stunk from the meds and the mange, but he was only 3-4 months old, so I thought he was adorable anyway. I let him stay with his first family Friday night and then took him in with my girls the day of Pugfest. He was very sweet and they semmed fine with him. They are so used to fosters now, there is never much of a reaction at all. He got lots of attention at Pugfest for how he looked. Everyone wanted to know what was wrong with him. Some picked up their pugs and ran....
He did look bad. That night went well, they were all so worn out that it wouldn't have mattered where we were. They all sacked out and were quiet as church mice! He was great on the ride home and I just could call Pork Chop each and every time, so Hank was my choice. He needed a manly nahimme since he looked not so manly. We fostered him and for Xmas last year my DH agreed we could adopt him, so he was my very first foster failure!!!
These were the pics the first foster mom took of him....

This was the first night at my house when we got back from Pugfest. He is barking at Bella!

This is him getting his hairs back!

My fave pic of Hanky!

You are NOT thinking of taking my toy...RIGHT?!

I have had 12 fosters including my current, so I wont post pics of them all, but they are really why I do this!

Marci - I forgot how bad poor Hank was when you got him. WOW!!
Amazing what love & care can do for a dog.

Re: Can we show some love for my rescue friends?
Marlee is my rescue girl. I adopted her from the SPCA in 2006. She was surrendered at the age of 5 months, totally hairless from demodectic mange and with a whopper of a case of kennel cough.
I was supposed to be her foster home, and Marlee's the only time I've been a foster failure (there have been more than a few fosters coming through our homek but only Marlee "stuck"). She was just so unbelievably mellow for a puppy (still is!) and Rhoda seemed to actually LIKE her (Rhoda normally just tolerates fosters). Probably because Marlee snuggled up to her on the couch that first cold autumn night and hasn't left her side since.
Naturally I found out about Marlee's health issues after her adoption was complete.
She had unbelievably dysplastic hips (the worst the orthopedic surgeon had seen on a dog who was still able to walk) and had bilateral FHO surgery at 7 months old. She's healthy now, but is still what my vet fondly calls "the orthopedic nightmare." We're expecting some more serious problems down the road.
Here's Marlee a couple weeks after I started fostering her:

And here she is, fully recovered:

The picture of you holding Milo does look like Chyna. She has the white face with the black area below her nose just like Milo does.
Yeah that is why Mike had such a cow at Pugfest. He really had to do a double take cause he thought it was Milo..LOL
Where is Chyna from?

This is the most touching thread I have ever read. ALL of these little ones are so lucky to have you. I am crying just re-reading all the wonderful stories.
