Skinny pug?

Post  Newsie96 on 12/1/2009, 11:25 am

Last night I was cuddling with Duke and I realized how thin he is. I almost feel like he's too thin. Even at 19 pounds now, Murphy still has some cushin but Duke doesn't seem to have any fat on him.

I know he eats the same as Murphy, but he's always going, going, going! I wonder if there's a supplement I should give him or just give him more at meal times.

It's funny, because on his medical paperwork when we adopted him, he was actually put on a diet because he was close to 24 pounds. I wonder if it's because he's more active with Murphy than he was at his old house.

Aw, just give him a little more food. I am sure he's not too thin, just lean and mean!!!

I would just increase his food a little. We find that with Diesel - by the end of summer, he's way too skinny cuz he's much more active than he is all winter long. And typically after increasing his food at each meal for a couple months, he's back to a good weight.

Active? The Duke of Twirl? Active? More like a streak of handsome black lightning! I'd just up his food for a bit and see how he does.

Marcella, my step daughter, tells us, "He's just muscle and blood!" (From an old country son, "You load 16 tons, what you get, another day older and deeper in debt. St. Peter don't you call me cause I can't go. I owe my soul to the company store....." I'm alone on this one, huh?)

"If you see me comin', better step aside. A lot of men didn't, a lot of men died. One fist is iron, the other is steel, if the left one don't get you then the right one will. You load 16 tons, and what do you get......." Tennessee Ernie Ford. I'm for sure old enough to remember that one, I'm just surprised that you young 'uns do!

Yes!!!!! We LOVE old country. It's one of the first things we found out we had in common. We love Buck Owens and the rest. And now Cella has an appreciation for them.

Yeah..seems like he could use a little bit more food to keep him healthy and happy, especially since he's so active. if he slows down in the winter, just subtract a little bit of food. try to keep it appropriate with his activity levels. :)

As others have said, I would just increase his food. Tinker and Ruffy are very active and need more food then my others have needed

Oh the joy of fattening up a skinny pug! I got to do it once with one of my fosters, a black female. Like the others have said I increased her food. I also gve her cheese for treats and fixed her a scrambled egg several times a week. She was also the only pug who ever got anything but fat free yogurt. She put on about three pounds in two months and wondered why she never got anymore cheese.

We had eggs on Tuesday night so Duke and Murphy both got scrambled eggs with their Honest Kitchen. Then later in the afternoon Murphy did a stealth poop in the living room and guess who ate it and puked it back up? Yup, the stealth poop eater!!! I got something from the vet to give Murphy so Duke won't like his poop. And I'll be adding some rice and veggies to their meals and I've instructed Daddy that he can give more than one treat a day (but not five!! LOL).
