Wow, I am (happily) amazed!
Two things happened yesterday that have made me happy.
1. yesterday afternoon a female, 8-yr-old pug was listed on Craigslist, un-spayed. The person posting the ad said she was looking for a home where the people would get it spayed, as the pug had already had two litters and shouldn't have more.
I emailed her and so did Linda. My email was more of giving the pug (the gal asked for $60) a good home and that all mine were spayed and neutered. My intent was to get the pug into our rescue, but I wanted it to sound like a private person because some people don't like rescues. Meanwhile, Linda wrote as a director of Polar Pug Rescue and suggested she put the pug into rescue. We figured one of the ways might get a response.
Linda heard from her and the gal liked the idea of putting the pug into rescue so Linda is letting Vickie know and a pick up is being arranged.

2. Last night, I got an email from a man in Dutch Harbor (which, if you look on a map, is down in the Aluetian islands- hell & gone from Anchorage). Here is what he wrote:
Hi Maryjo, I was told by Carol Gilmour that you run a Pug Rescue Organization out of Anchorage. I am a Communications officer in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. A lot of good dogs are brought into the kennels here, and end up being shot b/c they don't have a home for them. I have tried to change this and looked for ways to save these animals. So far I have sent 4 puppy pitbulls to Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue through Carol Gilmour. I have it worked out with Pen-Air; so that I can fly the dogs to Anchorage free of charge, they are willing to help since it is a good cause.
Anyway, a 3 year old pure bred pug named Butch was just brought into the kennel at the police station. It's owners were leaving the island and couldn't take it with them. It has been neutered and all of its shots are up to date. Let me know if you would be willing to take this dog. It has a very friendly nice demeanor and just needs a little care, as its last owners kind of neglected it. I could have the dog in Anchorage any day that works for you. I am able to arrange the flights on short notice. I look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Peter
I replied back to the email and told him I'd have Vickie contact him ASAP. I cc'd the email to her. I gave him all our contact information. He called me fairly quickly after getting my email and we discussed how the pug would be sent. I told him I'd have Vickie call him, and I called her at home. As I was talking to her about it, he called her on her cell phone. She called me back after their conversation, and we are going to get both the pug and a beagle that came in with the pug. (She knows someone who wanted a puggle, and she thinks they would take the beagle).
I think he's a sincere guy who really wants to help the abandoned dogs in Dutch Harbor. vickie said she talked to him about other rescues in this area that could help him. Vickie knows everyone in the dog and rescue business. LOL
Anyway, the pug and beagle will get here today or tomorrow, and the craigslist pug will be picked up within the next day or two.
This shows a happier side of rescue, one we don't see too often.

Nice work!! I am always very suprised and happy when someone on CL agrees to go the rescue route-it doesn't happen too often but sometimes it does!
Can't wait to see their pics.

OH WOW. Just WOW. It's not often it all falls into place like that!
Dutch Harbour sounds AWFUL. Fancy just shooting dogs! Why would they take dogs to such a place?
Well done MJ. You're pretty damn fantastic.

Yup... it is where a huge fish processing plant is. And they run that plant entirely on fish oil! Unalaska is the city name, Dutch harbor is where all the fish stuff happens.

As soon as I heard Dutch Harbor I thought of Deadliest Catch, too. But, I didn't know they shoot the dogs in their shelter! How horrible. So glad you are getting the pug - and the beagle!! WTG! And, great about Craig's List, too. Most people on there want money for their pugs.
