This is a new one...
PugSavers took in the 12 yo from about 4 1/2 hours north of us yesterday. They had an awesome shelter staff person whoi drove him down to Sacramento for us. It turns out his original owner died and then his daughter took in the pug. The poor woman lost her house and she, her 2 daughters, and the pug were all living in the car. A week before Christmas she turned the pug in to the pound. I feel terrible for the poor woman.
He's a cute little guy...very skinny, so we has a work up done at the vet before I took him down to the Pug Dads. We gave him a bowl of food and water and even these yummy liver treats that most of the pugs think is crack, but he wasn't interested.
I put him in the car to make the roughly 45 min. drive to where I was meeting Michael and Lee and gave him the 1/4 bag of treats the vet gave me. He scarfed them down and I had to take the bag away from him because he was trying to eat the bag. He then proceeded to bark at me the entire drive, wanting more of the treats.
So met the PugDads at a Petco and we went in and bought him some of the treats and got a bowl to give him water. He put it down on the ground for him...nothing. No interest in the treats either. Then I suggested we put the water bowl in the car....he drank a 1/2 a bottle of water! And he ate the treats. Seems he was used to eating and drinking in a car and that's where he was confortable. Poor little thing.
Don't know what the PD's are going to call him...he didn't respond to his original name which was odd...so when they come up with a name I will see if I can get someone to post the photos for me.

How strange. Maybe they should name him Chevy or Ford or Honda. Maybe Jeep?

Poor old guy! What a sad story! Michael and Lee will have him living the good life soon. Can't wait to see his picture. Bless you, Roxane, and bless Michael and Lee.

Poor old sod. Glad he is in rescue and I hope his former family can find a new home as well.
Re: This is a new one...
Lee and I have named the little guy Archie. He was pretty alert and perky when we got him home (He was completely quiet the whole way home! Not a peep out of him!). The Pugs didn't seem too interested. They said their hellos. Archie gave Molly a couple kisses on her cheek and she put an end to that pretty quick! He knows to go peepee outside, and he peed and peed and peed! He didn't want to eat his super delicious dinner that Lee prepared, but we figured that was just nerves.
Lee and I were gonna bring him to the bedroom last night, but when it was bedtime, Archie was sound asleep in Penny's condo, so we locked the door to keep him safe and went to bed. Around 2:30, he started barking so I got up to check on him. He seemed fine. He got himself up and had a great big drink of water and then went back to Penny's condo and laid down! So I went back to bed.
About an hour and a half later, we were awakened by more barking. I got up to check on him again, and he was just laying in the condo! Don't know why he was barking, but this time I brought him to the bedroom. He's a good snuggler!
This morning, though, he still wouldn't eat. Lee put in all the extra yummy irresistible stuff, too! Archie would have nothing to do with it. Later in the day, we FINALLY got some low-sodium beef broth into him via syringe, and just about 30 minutes ago, I got him some more but mixed with an egg and flax seed oil. He kept falling asleep while he was eating.
SO... I'm not sure what's up with him. We'll keep feeding him with the syringe until he's strong enough to eat on his own. I can't wait for him to be comfy and happy enough to be himself so we can see his true personality! He's VERY cute and sweet... just a little out-of-it.
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. He's got lots to adjust to! I kept telling him while he was licking the syringe that we love him and he's going to have a great life now and that he just needs to eat up so he can get his strength back!
I hope he was listening! A photo can be seen on Facebook! (It's blurry, but you can see how cute he is!)

Have you tried feeding him in the car? That seems to be his thing. Off to check Facebook now!

Thank you! You guys are the best. If he eats in the car I'm going to laugh. I've heard of Moms and Dads putting the baby in the car and driving around to the baby will sleep. If you have to do this to get him to eat, I'm going to die laughing (but be grateful he is eating none the less).

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Roxane and the Pugdads!
Poor old guy - what a tragedy for his family. So sad. Is there any way you can let them know that he is VERY safe and VERY well cared for and loved now?
I look forward to hearing how he gets on.

He's such a handsome little guy. I hope he starts eating in the house soon. How very sad for his family. I hope they are able to be found and told he is safe.

Poor little chap, and I feel so sorry for the family too.
It will be very interesting to see if he will eat in the car.

What a sad story. But how wonderful that they decided to turn him into rescue for his own good. I hope the family gets the help they need, too.
Re: This is a new one...
Archie's a very lucky guy to have wound up in such a loving home! I hope the eating issues clear up quickly, and that it's not a medical issue as much as something due to his past history.
Big hugs to Archie and a very happy new year to him, the PugDads and the rest of their pug family!

Re: This is a new one...
Archie slept through the night, which is GREAT! He was quite alert this morning while he mostly enthusiastically licked up his low sodium beef broth/egg/flax seed oil breakfast! I got him to eat about three liver treats this morning, AND he had a few laps of his special breakfast RIGHT OUT OF THE BOWL! Just a few, but I was quite pleased! He cruised around the backyard this morning and made peepee, but no poop. He's sleeping quite contentedly in Penny's condo right now!
The other Pugs are being sweet with him. I mean... they mostly ignore him, but that's better than it could be! Archie followed Penny around a lot this morning, so he exercised his little weak back legs a bit.
Next steps... A poop and eating out of a bowl!
He's so cute and such a sweet little guy! I can't wait to watch him blossom into the sassy old man I'm sure he'll be!

Good for you, Michael, to take him in. You'll have him up to par in no time!
Re: This is a new one...
We got Archie's blood tests back today and he has an elevated white blood count. The vet thinks it could be a GI issue which could also explain his hesitance to eat. (I sent some Flagyl out in the mail to you today Michael). Hopefully its just a little bug and this will take care of it.
