Sigh.. Sherman is back...

Post  Maryjo on 2/11/2010, 10:42 am

She called and talked to Vickie yesterday. Said he didn't want to eat, and was 'moping'. She worried he was missing Vickie. She only gave it 24 hours!

When she brought him back, she said he spit up a little. And Vickie said he had diahrea not too long after... I wonder if he had a stomach bug, or all the moving around got him upset.

When I told Linda he was back, Linda (bless her kind soul) said to bring him back over and we'd foster him. So Sherman is now in the Alakas Pug Gang until further notice.

He ate fine last night and this morning. I saw him poop outside last night, but it was too far away for me to check and see if it was loose. I'll follow him around this afternoon when I let them out.

He slept good on the bed, and seemed OK in spirits last night. I know this is all confusing for him.

poor guy. the bouncing around can really be upsetting for them. Too bad the lady didn't give him a little longer to settle in.

Poor Sherman, what a rough couple days. I know he'll get the care he needs as part of your gang.

After I picked him from Vickie's, we went to the pet supply warehouse. While wheeling Sherman around in the shopping cart (I put a towel in the bottom), I bought Sherman a cool periwinkle-colored harness and leash and a fleecy bed and a Cuz. He enjoyed riding in the cart and meeting people.

Linda keeps saying we ought to go down in the number of pugs we have... but she adores Sherman, and couldn't let him sleep at the daycare!

Oh MJ - I'm so sorry to hear this. I loved Sherman while I fostered him. If he could have gotten along with my gang better, I'm sure we would still have him. Your house is perfect for him...no young kids.

I think the girl that was going to adopt him should have given him more time. when we first got him, it took him a few days to settle in and trust us. he didn't eat at first either. That isn't very long to give him a chance!

I'm glad he'll be with you. Will you still foster Kashi too?

Renee

PS - I forgot I had set up an account here!

Hi Reneé! I also think Sherman should have been given more time. But who knows... Maybe it is better she decided this quickly, then to let him settle down and then give him back?

With Beau gone, we had a space, so Kashi is staying, too. She and my Chloe are BFF's!! *LOL*

I'm sorry it didn't work out for Sherman, but there's always a reason things happen, so he must not have been meant to be with that family.

That being said, I do want to smack people who expect peace and bliss immediately and aren't willing to let the dog go through the adjustment period before giving up. Stupid people.

And what is weird is I don't think there was any NON-peace... She said he wouldn't eat and was 'moping'. If he had been causing a ruckus, that would have been a different story. I absolutely agree she didn't give him enough time, but for the wrong reasons.

Oh well, can't please everyone I guess.

Some people just don't understand the adjustment that has to take time. My daughter just got a 15 week old puppy back too (Weim) because the woman just couldn't handle having a puppy around. Geesh!

Poor Sherman. She didn't give him anything like enough time, but as has been said maybe it's better this way.

If they are sensitive any kind of upheaval can have dire results at the back end. I know - we had to deal with weeks on end of problems after our last summer holiday when poor Toddy got sent to bootcamp by my mother.

How frustrating, my foster has been here two weeks now and it's amazing how she has changed in that short of a time.
Maybe it's for the best but still.

I would say "poor Sherman" but I know that he's in excellent hands with you & Linda and like Rachel said, everything happens for a reason. That just wasn't the right home for him. Give that cutie a hug from me.

Well, that's disappointing. It's hard to know what to say in that situation. It does make me pretty frustrated when people decide that quickly that it isn't going to work out, but I guess, better now than later. We've had a couple of our adopted dogs return in terrible shape because the adopters didn't have the jam to call us earlier.

Disappointing, yes, very. She really didn't give him much of a chance. But perhaps it just wasn't meant to be? And yes, far better to find out now, rather than later.
How frustrating is rescue, at times.

Lucky little Sherman, to be back with you. anyone who won't give him a chance does not deserve to have his love. It was so quick, he probably thought he was there just for a visit, and so he was!

We rescued Brutus from a SPCA shelter after he had been returned 3 times in a week. I was a bit leery as he was 3 yrs old, and perfectly healthy.
we have had him for almost 3 yrs now, and I still have no idea why he was repeatedly returned. One evidently brought him back within hours.

I was Bubba's fourth home in the first 8 months of his life. By the time I got him, he had demodex so bad he was nearly bald. I am sure the moving between homes didn't help that at all. He has been in my home for 10 years now.

You know Sherman has to be confused with all this moving around, and I am not surprised that is is affecting his GI tract. That being said, if she was that quick on the "this isn't working" trigger, then he is definitely better off not staying there. And he is definitely much better off with the Polar Pug Pack. And, gee, why am I surprised that Kashi isn't going anywhere??????
