Re: Jake's in Trouble

Post  pugpillow on 2/24/2010, 11:39 am

My sweet prince is gone, at least his body is. He will live within me forever. His heart was strong and his eyes bright until the end, but he had zero reflexes. The vet said we could either give him prednisone to see if that would restore some mobility or, if an xray of his spine suggested it, do back surgery. In either case he would have to be catheterized indefinitely to empty his bladder. That wasn't the essence of Jake's life. Jake was all about joy and fun and following his mum everywhere with those extra big paws. I couldn't have him live like that so I let him go. Gawd it hurts. I guess the pain is proportionate to the love.

Run free, my boyfriend. Go and eat as much poop as you want and hump your socks off. I'll never forget the ride we had together.

oh Hillary - I had so hoped for a better outcome for Jake today. I'm so sorry to hear this news, and am sending some comfort and strength your way. Here's to Jake running free at the Bridge, and remaining in your heart.

I've been waiting and praying so anxiously for a hopeful update and so hoped not to read this news. My heart goes out to you, your hubby, Jake's partner-in-adventure Betsy and all the Pugpillow gang. I am so very sorry. I am just so glad that his final years brought him to you and a life that made up for any neglect he had suffered previously. You were the most brilliant and wonderful mum to him (and all your kids) Hilary, and I am in awe and inspired by what you have done. Loving and heartfelt condolences.

A candle burns bright in Australia to show him his way to the bridge.

I sent this to Byron, and he is going to post Jakes video tonight. Here's what he wrote:

I will need your help tonight, there is a really funny vid we have of jake I want to post on there…it’s the one of him air-humping…I think it says a lot about what you need to be happy
