I am such a failure

Post  PugLady3 on 2/24/2010, 2:10 pm

...at fostering! I am good with the whole taking care of the foster pug part, it's the letting go that I suck at! We have decided that we are going to go ahead and make Duke officially ours. He's been here since last June without much interest (that whole incontinence thing scares people off) and I just can't imagine our home without him now. I'm going to take a break from fostering for awhile & just serve as an emergency back-up. I feel guilty about it because I know how important and scarce foster homes are but with Buster's & Yoda's ongoing health issues, I think it's for the best anyway. So there...I said it...I'm a failure! "Duke the kook" is staying!

YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE!!!

Loving these guys and taking care of them could never be a failure!!

I know just how you feel. My first foster, Bucky, was very hard to give up. I was devastated! But, I made myself do it, so that I could foster again. Luckily, I keep in touch with his new family, and that has helped a lot.

My most recent foster, before the one I have now, was even harder to give up. His name is Frank. Not only was he hard to give up, but I had no warning that he was leaving. I just took him for a meeting...and off he went. I was so upset that I quit fostering for a while. Sometimes, you have to let your heart take a break.

You are wonderful and a blessing for fostering. But, it is just as important that you have decided to give Duke his forever home, and how lucky for him that his home has turned out to be where he's been at all this time.

Don't get down on yourself. I think all of us that foster must go through this kind of stuff.

Well, I don't see it as a failure. I see it as Duke finding the perfect home, and it taking a while for everyone to recognize it. Congratulations to both of you!

For some reason, I can only get pictures to post at the beginning of my messages. I must be doing something wrong, but haven't figured it out yet. Anywho...this is a picture of kooky Dukey. I have some better ones on my laptop at home. He looks very serious here but he's really not. He's such a funny boy! He doesn't like to be kissed & I've never seen a pugs head move as fast as when you try to kiss him. If you happen to catch him off guard & sneak one in, he gets all excited & starts grunting and acting silly. He does all kinds of cute stuff like that which makes us laugh constantly. He's also helped me heal from Pugsy's passing somewhat because she used to sleep with her chin resting in the crook of my arm almost every night for over 6 years and I had a really hard time falling asleep after she was gone. He gave it some time but Duke is now my snugglebug and rests in that very same spot every night.
