I need a little help...
I am having an issue with Coper...he is in belief that he needs to lick or suck on Pozies neck when they are together during the day...
Last night I came home from work and noticed he had been licking her...I gave her a bath and made sure she was clean and nothing was wrong...by the time I woke up this morning her neck was oozing and pussy and horrid smelling...They were seperated all night...we have cleaned it with peroxide...obviously we are seperating them...it happened a few months ago and we cleaned it up and it went away...I am not asking how to treat it...
But how do I get him to stop...Why would he thinking that constantly licking her or sucking on her neck is ok?? He has been with us since he was 8 weeks old and just started this...I noticed today when he walks near her she growls or gets up and walks away...
Has anyone ever had a dog that did this? He doesn't chew or suck on his stuffed animals..just Pozie...

Man, I feel bad for poor Pozie! How rough is that...to get an owie from all that licking.
My pug Tobey is a real licker. In fact, when she just recently had her dental, they asked me if she was a licker, because they pulled lots of hair out of her teeth. Eeeww!! Whenever she gets going, we just tell her to quit that licking, and she knows exactly what we are telling her to stop. She doesn't lick any of the other pugs...she would think that is beneath her....but, she licks everything else, carpet, couch, clothes, blankets, anything.
I wish I had some good solid advice....but, I don't. Does she have hot spots that you aren't finding, and that is why he is licking her? Could he be trying to lick the hot spots? Or, is he a nervous guy, and she is the alpha....so maybe he is trying to be submissive to her?
I think you are right to keep them apart. I would be afraid of her neck getting infected!

Re: I need a little help...
First of all, I'd take her to the vet. If her neck is 'oozing', she needs antibiotics.
Second, It could be her neck already had a sore spot, and that is what he was licking. If not, the vet can give you ideas on how to prtoect her. Once her neck heals, he might lose interest.
Keep us updated!

Re: I need a little help...
We have the medicine from the last time he did it...And are doing the same thing we were instructed to do last time...
We seperated them for the longest thinking that maybe there as something that he found "tasty"...she was healed up...hair had grown back...and then he started again...
They are seperated...and will stay that way now...but it is just weird how he doesn't do it to Ripley...only Pozie...Yes she is the alpha...always has been...but I can't figure out why the interest now...this is the second time he has done it so severely that she gets this sore...
It is aggravating...
...and then some more

Sounds like he is starting off hotspots with the licking. Oh dear.
I see that bitter apple spray is supposed to be usable on dogs as well in such eventualities - maybe you could try that? I would be hesitant about using it if the skin is sore, though, but once cleared up perhaps you might try it?
