The World's Smallest Rottie - Part 2
I had to run to a meeting this morning and only took the dogs for a short walk. When I got home, I took them out to the backyard to see if there was any "business" that needed to be done. The evil neighbor Doxie, Roxy immediately started attacking the fence and barking furiously causing Kimchi to rush the wood fence and try to get at the barking maniac. Smallish Rotties need to protect their property, you know. Last time she ripped a toe nail. This time she ripped her pad.
After cleaning her off, put silver protein on it, bandaging her up with gauze and duct tape, giving her a tramadol for pain and calling the vet to get an appointment for this afternoon, I got MAD.
I love dogs. Dogs bark. Dogs can be annoying. Roxy is beyond that. She is left alone night and day and spends her time in the small yard barking her head off. And, it's one of those loud, piercing, constant barks. If Thurston barked that much, I would take measures to stop it because I couldn't stand to hear it. My neighbor does nothing.
So, I called Animal Control and filed an "anonymous" complaint about the noise. I really don't want to cause problems with the neighbor but I really want to be able to sleep past 7 am without Roxy waking me up and Kimchi getting upset. I really would like to be able to enjoy my backyard. I would like the dogs to be able to go back there and pee without getting distracted (and injured) because of Roxy.
I feel like a mean bitch. But, this has been going on for 2 years and I just lost it today. An officer will visit the house and give a warning. Hopefully that will solve the problem. I also hope that my neighbor doesn't decide to retaliate by outing me and my too-numerous cats. The cats don't bother anyone because they are only indoors. But, I still am over the limit by a LOT.

People that leave their dogs outside day and night, without a care for anyone else, let alone the dog, are not responsible dog owner's. I can't imagine you have put up with this for 2 years now! Poor Kimchi. I would get steaming mad too if one of my babies kept getting hurt. We have a neighbor just like this. They leave thier two dogs outside day and night! Only one of my gang gets into occasional fence fights with them. If that starts happening, I go outside and stand there so the dogs really get barking, and then the neighbors call them in for a short while. Don't feel guilty - you aren't doing this out of spite.
By the way...you are amongst friends...just how many cats do you have?

I would have dropped a dime on her, too. You are being very reasonable, and I feel sorry for Roxie the Doxie.

So, we're back from the vet. Kimchi has 2 puncture wounds - one on either side of her pad. They were made by little Doxie teeth. Roxy stuck her long nose THROUGH the fence and BIT Kimchi on the paw. Granted, Kimchi put her paw where Roxy could bite it. I'll be repairing the fence this weekend.
That's TWICE my little terror has been bitten and she's NOT necessarily the completely innocent one. What AM I going to do with her?
The vet just shakes his head at me as I bring in my sick and weary on a weekly basis. We're also dealing with some pretty serious issues with Charles (my FIV+ cat) at the moment, so I'm there a lot. Today I brought BOTH Charles and Kimchi to see him and Thurston went along for the ride. Thurston escaped from the room and went right to the food storage room. It like the circus coming to town when I show up!

Um, the doxie bit Kimchi? It is definitely drop-a-dime-to-Animal-Control-time. Plus, if the doxie is instigating it every time (and it sounds like that is the case), the doxie's human needs to pony up for the bill. Kimchi was just responding to a perceived threat to her property and her humans.
And give your spunky little Korean condiment a big hug from me.

Lisa, I am so sorry and hug Kimchi for me. I am dealing with the same crap, minus the bite.
Our last neighbors had 3 dogs they left out day in and day out, they sit in their yard all day and do nothing but bark. Co-Pilot hears them from inside, but mostly does not bark while indoors because we worked VERY hard to get her to NOT do that, but the SECOND she goes outside she wants to tell them off, to really SHE is starting the fence bickering, but it's BECAUSE those damn owners leave their dogs out there 24/7, never walk them, play with them or mind them any attention at all.
Fast forward, our new house, nice lab looking dog lives next door. Barks. All. The. Time.
Not a bark that would really bother me much, EXCEPT the bark bother Co-Pilot and sets her off. So now we have the same situation, except we are lucky the lab is not aggressive towards Co-Pilot at all, but really when will I get to live by people that take care of their dogs. When? Can we all move to an island? I just want to enjoy our backyard, seriously.
Sorry I went off on a little tangent there.

Sara, no tangent. It's all related. I get so frustrated because I NEVER let my dogs out in the backyard unsupervised. Poor Roxy is out there all day and barks at anything going on beyond her domain. Her yard is bordered by an alley, the street, my yard and my neighbors yard. There is a LOT of disturbance during the day. Her barking is just constant. It is really horrible for me when the weather warms up and my windows are open. I just can't understand why people don't take care of their dogs!
We built a barrier so Roxy's long nose can't get through the fence. She still barked her head off this morning and got Kimchi all excited, but at least there is no possibility for contact.

I hope KimChees paw heals well. I've said it before, how nice would it be if WE were each others neighbors?

count me in the club! I have 2 pits living next to me who stay outside all day during the week, and at night whenever the neighbors leave for the weekend. And since I work from home, I hear it. When I hear it, the pugs here it. And Bello and Jessie bark. bark bark bark bark bark.
Fortunately we don't share a fenceline with those two. But the barking drives me mad. the poor dogs are so BORED. they get no exercise..no stimulation - of course they bark at anything that moves.
The neighbors I do share a fenceline with have a little fluffy white dog, and a new Boston Terror. Bello hates them...he and Jessie patrol their area and tell these dogs off whenever they can. We have to be careful to supervise, and drag them back inside if the other dogs are out.
