Wylie, the BT...

Post  Maryjo on Thu 1 Apr - 11:49

I got a call last night to pick up an owner-surrender. Wylie is a 10-yr-old Boston terrier. The owner has had him all his life, but due to life-changing circumstances she had to give him up.

This was a hard one for me. As we sat in her living room and she filled out the surrender paperwork, Wylie lay on the floor, playing with a stuffed squeaky toy, rolling on his back, at ease with his world. He was a happy, perfectly content, very active dog. he is all muscle.

With the stroke of a pen, his world changed. I had her carry him to my car and we put him in the crate. He didn't protest, just looked confused. She's crying, I'm trying not to cry, but had tears in my eyes... This is much better than euthanasia or dropping him at the pound or listing him on craigslist, but still...

I took him down to the doggy caycare. Vickie is out of town, so that is one reason I went to pick him up. (the other is I probably would have anyway, he was on my side of town).

10 years old and still fiesty, but he looks like he is getting cataracts:

He's a good-looking chap

Sigh...

it's so incredibly sad. Here's hoping Wylie gets a great home in no time. and thinking some good thoughts for the home that had to give him up - what a tough decision, and situation to be in.

Aww MJ, he is adorable. In some ways, those are always the hardest surrenders, I think. If they are coming from a bad home, or a home where they weren't wanted anymore, you KNOW how much better off they will be. It's harder when they come from a home where they are so obviously loved, and you know it's heartbreaking for the owner and the doggy. At least the owner knows he will be in good hands now.

Wow, I know I asked for his story...but, this has me in tears! I can't imagine having to part with any of my babies. MJ - you are a trooper. Poor Wylie, I hope he can find a home.

I know I posted on FB, but this just breaks my heart.
The first time I ever helped with any sort of transport for NIPRA was picking up an owner surrender from a home that the female pug was being aggressive towards her pug brother. The woman so upset and it was so hard for her, but it was the right thing for this girl to be in a 1-pug home. Thankfully there was a new home already lined up and I took her right to meet her new owners.
I hope Wylie finds a great home where he can live out his days happy and loved.

Um this is sad. Sad for the family that tings changed so much in the lives that they had to give up their belvoed pet. And sad for him that he'll go through a transition, but I know that he'll find an equially great home to live out the rest of this life in. BTW, he is so cute and handsome! I like him!

I can imagine how they are the hardest surrenders. It is heartbreaking to think of what has happened in the poor woman's life that would put her in that position. At least she can take comfort knowing he will be loved and well cared for wherever he ends up.

Surrenders such as this are heartbreaking for all concerned - including those of us who are "in charge" of dealing with them. Poor little Wylie, poor outgoing owner. I so hope he will find a loving home where he can live out the rest of his days. Please give him a hug from the UK pug and terrier brigade!

I can't imagine having to give up my babies. It would break my heart. The poor woman must be grieving so hard right now and I can't imagine what Wylie is feeling. Ugh!

I would break my heart to have to give up Otto, so I can imagine how Wylie's owner had to have felt. He's a lovely guy, and I pray he finds a loving home. Is he as bouncy and energetic as most BTs, or has he calmed down a bit with age? That's another breed I've always been attracted to - they look so dapper! Hugs to Wylie, prayers for a good home and sympathy to his former owner.

Wylie hasn't calmed down one bit. Age hasn't done anything to slow him down (And he's been neutered for years!). They tell me he's bouncing off walls. *LOL* I saw him last night when I took Moose for his playdate night at the doggie daycare, and he was glad to see me, but too busy to stop and 'talk'.

That is so sad, Anchorage isn't the size of NYC, any chance that he can see his mom from time to time. Thank you for helping him out and being there for his mom. Hope he can visit her again if even for a burger at a McD's.
