I forgot to give an update. The couple who adopted Itty Bitty and Baby LOVE them. The lady who adopted Houdini wants to foster for us too!
Re: Itty Bitty and Baby pics
That's wonderful news! I will tell the surrendering family. They will be happy to know the girls went together.
They were all ex-show dogs. I believe their age. health and finances together made it impossible for them to care for so many dogs the way that they should be cared for and so they made the decision to place them in rescue. They kept two, surrendering a total of five. The three that Saira got, plus two other adorable boys who went to Arizona Pug rescue. NONE of them looked their age.
Take care,
Lisa

These are the best types of updates ever! SNPR always comes through for the California rescues. Thanks so much for helping San Diego out with these guys.

I hope San Diego realizes how lucky they are that SNPR was willing to help them out. BTW, when Roxane was in the hospital, Saira offered to check the Pugsavers phone line/email if we needed her to. Rescues helping rescues. Thanks SNPR!

Re: Itty Bitty and Baby pics
Absolutely. When she got the call on those five dogs, Suzi was tearing her hair out to find fosters. We were full to the gills and I was so relieved that both SNPR and APARN could help us with these babies. I hope we can return the favor someday.
I drove the two that went to Arizona all the way to Phoenix myself after keeping them for three days at my home. The insane part was trying to fit all the crates in my daughter's Hyundai Accent. The day I picked up the 5, I also pulled a blind, deaf senior girl from the shelter there (Lancaster) and kept her as a foster myself. I had 6 dogs that day. The volunteer from SNPR who met me in Victorville was so nice and patient because I was very late meeting him due to the surrendering family having a tough time saying goodbye.
Up until very recently San Diego Pug Rescue only accepted dogs from the immediate San Diego area, but with the closing of so many rescues and others forced to only accept very limited numbers of dogs we are now pulling dogs from as far away as Visalia. I pulled one from there just a couple weeks ago, a 9 hour round trip. It has severely taxed our foster and donation network, but the thought of letting a dog die in a shelter is anathema to us. Covering Los Angeles alone so far this year is bringing more dogs than San Diego used to take for the whole year.
I know other rescues of all breeds and mixed breed as well, and the shelters - are in the same boat. I had reached my limit of dogs, but still took two more long term fosters who had nowhere else to go and the occasional mixed or other breed dog, I pay for all the medicals on my fosters, long and short term myself. I provide premium food to not only my dogs, but those who cannot afford to give their dogs the food they need. I loan money to those who can't afford to pay their vet bills on their word alone that they will pay me back when they can. Am I rich? Hell no! Do I live in a nice home? No. Do I have savings or investments? No. Do I sacrifice and my family sacrifices for the dogs and the people who love them? yes.
We all do the best we can. We all try to make a difference, not just in the lives of the dogs, but in the lives of the people who love the dogs.
Take care,
Lisa

Re: Itty Bitty and Baby pics
Bless you Lisa, you are an angel for all you do for the pugs. What a lot of hours you put in behind the wheel!
I just wish our current economy would turn around and everyone had homes, and jobs. I think then the rescues would not be getting so many surrenders and also many more people would be able to adopt.

Re: Itty Bitty and Baby pics
Hi everyone,
My husband and I adopted Itty Bitty (Minnie) and Baby (Daisy) from SNPR. We wanted to say thank you to all of you for your hard work and dedication for all of the pugs. The girls have been a joy as well as a learning process, but it's been well worth the experience. We look forward to many happy years together.
We'll post some new pics on the Introduction thread.
