Has anyone ever used a Herbal Calmer?
We are venturing up to my mom's place this weekend for Canada day. I think I have mentioned before that the two girls, my Violet and my mom's Daisy, do not get along. It can be very stressful to deal with them. They are both so anxious around each other. Neither can relax. The plan is to prevent fights before they start and to keep them separated for the most part, but I thought I'd try an herbal calmer, too. Not sure if it will help at all, but I thought it's worth a try. Anyone have any experience with herbal calmers? I don't really want to be pulling apart two fighting girls. We are kind of at a loss of what to do. We will also exercise them a lot to get their crazy energy out.

I have used Rescue Remedy for the pugs before acupuncture treatments. The vet also sprays the room with lavendar oil/water spray and puts a bit on their coats as well.

I use Rescue Remedy before we travel, Rupert gets car sick and I use it to calm any of his anxiety. I put a few drops on a treat, I've only used it once but it did work.

I dont know too much about herbal soothers, but on regular tranquilizer products, if you give them after the animal is already upset, they tend to have the opposite effect you are after. so if herbal remedies work the same, you need to give it while she is quiet, and before she is apt to get upset. Good luck with the visit. I know how difficult it is when 2 dogs dont get along. Had a few rescues in here, that took a while to get accustomed to the others, and it was hell on earth.

I bought a product at the specialty store for Phoebe called Dr Goodpet. She used to get sick in the car no matter how far we would drive. Weather it would be a 15 minute drive to the pet store or further. Howevever she didnt get sick in the car the one time I used it but she looked even more miserable than she did without me using it. Since then she hasnt gotten sick in the car. I dont think it agreed with her, but it kept her lunch down which was a good thing. Also it want very cheap for the little bottle it came in. She still isnt fond of the car but hasnt gotten sick in about 6 month. I think she has grown out of it, but still doesnt like to go for rides.

I've heard so many people get good results with Rescue Remedy. I think the high alcohol content has something to do with its success :)
I've also heard that people have had good luck with the D.A.P. infusers. They work like Glade Plug-ins and emit the pheromones of a lactating bitch which is supposed to calm and relax. I had a client who had a dog with severe separation anxiety and using the DAP stopped the dog from charging through plate glass windows, and I think in clinical trials it showed a 70 % improvement in anxious behavior.

Rescue remedy and lavender oil. Absolutely, and I'd be giving Violet a lavender oil massage on the way up.

I've used quite a few of them and the one I've had the best luck and found most effective is Sleepytime Tonic.

I just put a few drops on a treat and it did the trick for a few hours. It should say how often you can use it.

Homepathic calmer called Calms Forte works for my pugs
Calms Forte comes in small white pill form and is for people, but it works really well with my pugs. Because it is homeopathic you cannot hurt them ( as you would worry about with drugs etc) I give them one or two pills and it really seems to knock them out, making them sleepy and mellow with no side effects at all.
