Anna is a mess, need help with Benadryl dosing frequency *Update
She had a 25mg tab around noon today. She's starting to itch again, how often can I dose her? She's got big ole swollen, weepy spots on her neck. She gets them when she eats anything other then her dog food.
Cat food is most likely this time. Although hubby thinks its my moms hubby feeding them treats when we were out of town! I did a search and couldn't find anything, here on the forum.
If they are not any better by the am, then she'll go visit the Dogtor

I would trim the hair around the spots that are oozing. They could very easily become infected, but the vets would first shave the area pretty well so air can get to the spots. Chyna has had several hot spots recently, and it is due to allergies although hers are acting up from something outside. She does have food allergies, but I am the only one feeding her so she is only getting what she is supposed to.

I generally do benedryl twice a day.
I like the suggestion to clip the hair around the owie too. Also, maybe clean it wil maleaseb wipes?

Also, if it is a hot spot, don't put anything on it live neosporin. It needs to breathe. We once got a powder that had an antibiotic in it along with some numbing stuff that helped dry it up.

She's not any better today, not that I really thought she would be. So she's heading to the dogtor in a few minutes. The worst part is that the hot spots are on her neck and affecting her breathing. Its pretty darn hot here lately, over 100 for the last 5 days or so. Even with A/C the house still ends up about 84 at the hottest. If it was winter, I'd just wait them out. Keep her on a clean diet, and they'd go away. But these have got to go soon! Thanks for all the good thoughts. I'll update ya'll when we get home!

It may have become such a systemic allergic reaction that she may need a course of steroids to control the inflammation and give her body a chance to start from stratch again. The two times I absorbed something my body was highly allergice to, I needed steroids to get better.
I hope Anna gets some relief soon!

That's what my vet says, too. Benedryl is a pretty safe drug.
I am glad you are taking her to the vet. Please update us when you can.

She got bit by a fox!! Not what I expected to hear
He checked out her ears, ( I thought maybe she had a foxtail I had not caught, and was digging at her ears, scratching the crap out of her neck in the process) Her ears were fine, so we discussed the food allergy issue while he shaved the area, pulled off the dead skin, used Malseab wipes on it, and then...Four puncture wounds that match exactly the fox skeleton jaw he has in his office. All canine tooth bites. Maybe she surprised him, and he just bit and then ran? How did I miss this?
So, she got an antibiotic shot, a new pack of wipes, and antibiotics to take for 12 days. My poor baby, I always turn on the porch light and make noise before I let them out at night. Trying to give whatever may be in the yard, time to vacate. Hmmm, Anna is exhausted right now, but the swelling has already started to go down. Thanks for all the love!

Holy crap Sarah!!!! That's so scary! Poor Anna. And I guess that's why rabies shots are so important in the U.S. Hope she heals quickly.

Holy shit, that's scary. Josh was so pissy when we moved into the new house about having to fence in a backyard area. We live on 45 acres and he didn't want to have a fence, but I'm so worried about the wildlife getting in the yard when I let the kids out at night. I know a chainlink fence won't stop them but certainly hope it helps.
I hope Anna is feeling better soon. Give her kisses from us.

Oh no! The poor baby. Miller suffers terribly with allergies and hot spots. Thank goodness we haven't had a fox run-in though.
