And you may have to push for the C&S. Don't let them talk you out of it.

We had a helluva time getting rid of a Proteus infection with Pugsy before she passed away. That is one nasty little bugger! I can't remember which antibiotic we used (it was an unusual one-not Baytril or Clavamox) but it worked. I'll have to look up the name. I think that we may even still have some left.

Good luck at the vet, Donna! Hope he's feeling better soon.

I dropped him off at the vets this morning. I will know more when I get him this afternoon.
Poor guy, he was so good there I felt terrible leaving him.

Aww, hoping Elmer is feeling better when you pick him up, poor guy. I had a mill girl a few years ago who was trying to pee every 2.5 seconds she ended up having 3 stones removed.

Hopefully Elmer will get some relief soon.

Yes, let me know. That proteus is a stubborn bastard and hard to get rid of. I'd love to know what you used. We've also seen an increase in urinary E. coli.

update on Elmer

Post  Donna on 7/15/2010, 6:46 pm

As suspected he had a UTI, luckily no stones. The vets office loved him. I brought him over to his temp foster home and he walked in peed on their chair and made himself right at home. I think he was happy to see pugs there that were happy about him coming on board.
If it works out by the end of next week I will take in their foster girl, hopefully it was just a male thing w/ mine.
They would keep both but they already have 5 pugs of their own and a very small house.
I can't turn my back on him but if he is doing well there I owe it to them to take in their foster and that will be it for a while.
Thanks all for listening to me rant, I appreciate it.

He is really precious!

i don't know if it helps, but I have to keep belly-bands (we call them sassy slacks for dignity purposes), and I use the generic Poise pads. They seem a little more durable.

I always call them weenie wraps - "Duke, come & get your weenie wrap on!". I guess that's not very dignified!

Any updates on Elmer? I sure hope he is feeling much better and will stop the excessive peeing quickly. Alsohope the panting stopped. It took one of my rescues two full days before he relaxed and stopped panting completely.

I am on vacation and have limited access to email so I am not sure how he is, he is staying at another foster home for the week. I know they will take very good care of him. I will let you know when I pick him up on Friday.

My male Rupert has to wear a belly band that I am now calling his weenie wraper, thanks to you guys!
