Help pug eye people

Post  dieselsmom on 7/23/2010, 9:38 pm

I'm pugsitting for my girlfriend, Mary, this weekend, and she left me instructions for everyone's meds. Which is easy enough, except she didn't specify which tube of eye stuff is the Cyclosporine and there's not one specifically labeled with that.

Here's what I have:

** GenOne Otic
**Neobacimyx-X - it lists bacitracin-neomycin as ingredients, so I believe this is the eye antibiotic ointment she refers to in her instructions
**Atropine Sulfate Ophthalmic Ointment

Which one of those is the cyclo? I'm so lost - I have obviously never had a pug with eye issues, since I can't figure out these eye meds (well, other than Kayla who took Tacrolimus and that was easy to figure out!).

Good Lord. Got me beat. Cyclosporine should say Cyclosporine on it, I would think.

Okay--hold the phone. Did some quick scanning through my pet pharmaceuticals book. The Neobacimyx has a corticosteroid in it so that must be the cyclosporine one. the GenOne-Otic is antibiotic (gentimycin?) and the Atropine is to relax the eye muscles.

This is a bit of a guess on my part since I know that cyclosporine is a immunosuppressant and so are corticosteroids.

I vote to call her vet in the morning and confirm.

It's not the Atropine Sulfate Ophthalmic Ointment. I know all about that one. But that's a story for another time.

Yeah. It's a bad idea to guess on the eye meds. You can really do harm.

That's what I figured, Blanche. Didn't want to mess up anyone's eyes. I'll have to see if I can get a hold of Mary today and find out what's what! Thanks for the help, though.

Yeah, I don't think that any of those are cyclosporine (but I could be wrong). The cyclosporine that I have here is in a tube and it just says "0.2% cyclosporine, USP opthalmic ointment". Optimmune is the brand name.

So, cyclosporine wasn't any of the ones I found!! Go figure - I talked to Mary today and it was in a separate spot from the other eye stuff. Good thing I just waited til I found out. Thanks for the help, everyone.
