Omega 3

Post  puglouie on 7/24/2010, 11:51 pm

My vet recommended I give Omega-3 supplement to all three of my pets (one cat, two pugs). I take it myself but never thought of giving it to the kids. Anybody use it? Love to hear feedback on it.

I took my 20-year-old cat to the vet yesterday and that's when the vet recommended it. She feels it will do a lot to make my old girl comfortable as she eases down that road. She's doing pretty good for an old thing but I can tell she's starting to show the effects of her age though I wouldn't be surprised if she lived to 30. So hard to watch them get old but I must say this cat has really shown me what "aging gracefully" means. And she still loves to have sniff parties with the pugs. :-D

I think there are some supplements formulated especially for pets. I know Alice uses it...

Yes, I do. My dogs get pretty massive amounts of Omega 3--3 to 4 times what is suggested as my vet felt it was needed and given everyone's age, somewhat wonky immune systems and skin issues. I alternate between a herring oil by Noble and a capsule of mackeral/sardine. I don't use salmon oil as two of my dogs react to it.

I also can't use coconut oil as they react to that as well.

I bought the bottle from the vet they recommended. Don't have it in front of me right Noe but will post here when I do.

Our vet recommends it too-we use the huge capsules that we ourselves take as he said that was fine. Lucy the Beagledor gets hers whole. For the small dogs, I pierce each capsule and squirt the contents of one on their food once a day and it seems to be a big hit.
