Pet Insurance Options

Post  Denika on 8/4/2010, 10:48 am

Hello everybody,
I know there's a thread on VPI right now, and that reminded me to ask some questions about pet insurance that I have been meaning to ask.
First of all, is it a good idea to get it in the first place?
What is the best company in your opinion?
Is it a good idea to get the wellness "package" or does that end up wasting money?
What things should I make sure it covers????
I have two pug babies, and I want to make sure they are taken care of, but I don't want to waste money on something I don't need either. Thank you so much for any help or advice you can give me!

GET IT!! Get it now before anyone has a vet visit with an issue that will be considered "pre-existing". Most of my animals aren't/weren't insurable due to their health or age. If they had been I'd have saved myself a smallish fortune. I know that Rona has WAY exceeded my outlay in vet costs and she has insured her dogs.

Can't recommend a company since I've never used insurance, but it's worth doing your research. In a big emergency, it can literally be a life saver.....

Yep, with Imi's current issues my vet bills for the last 8 years or so are about to top out at $100,000. I am sure people think I am HUGELY exaggerating when I quote these figures, but sadly, they're pretty spot on. Not every cent has been covered (they usually pay 80% of the bill for an older dog and 100% for a young dog) and limits have been VASTLY exceeded (usually $6000 for older dogs and $10,000 for a younger dog, per year) but the peace of mind it gives you is SOOOOOOOO worth the $40 per dog per month. Do it as soon as you can!!
