It's raining rescue pugs here in the UK
In our part of the country alone, Almandine collected 3 yesterday (a pair and a single bitch) and re-homed the pair together. The little black bitch will be going to live with her MIL.
Later this week we are collecting 2 stud dogs and also (hopefully, if the owner will let them go, for money) 2 breeding bitches. These are all coming from a "less than ideal" situation. At the same establishment we are told that there is also an in-whelp bitch + an unspecified number of other pugs (and of other toy breeds, too). We are, of course, hoping to get every single pug out of there. You can guess what sort of establishment we are talking about.
These are just the ones we know about, here in our part of the country. I am also aware of several others in the system.
I know that to many of you, these numbers probably don't sound particularly high. But for us, they are, and it is very worrying. I'm sure they will all find homes, but it may take time to place some of them.
We are told that the 2 stud dogs live outside the whole time, and that neither dog actually has a name. And that's what makes me feel unbelievably angry and so, so sad.

Oh, that situation sounds deplorable! Those poor little guys. When you get the puggies out, can the "breeder" (and I use the term loosely) be reported to the RSPCA? I hope they all get new homes quickly. I'm glad you and Almandine are involved, Janet. I know these poor little mites are in good hands, finally. It seems that there are more cases of PDE in Britain, which is heartbreaking. With people like this it's no wonder. I just hope it remains very rare in Australia.

I hope that all the pugs can be successfully sprung and that the sad unnamed boys and everyone else will find loving homes soon. People are horrible.

Re: It's raining rescue pugs here in the UK
Once we've got them out, Rona, I certainly have every intention of rattling as many bars as possible. And also, of course, we have alerted the breed rescues of the other toy breeds supposedly kept there, that there may some of theirs in a similar boat.
I've been told that PDE is, sadly, on the increase here. There are far too many pugs being bred indiscriminately these days - the numbers have rocketed during the years that I've been involved with the breed. The Kennel Club Breed Records Supplement makes truly depressing reading nowadays.

I despair at the constant battle to keep dogs out of the hands of these puppy machine evildoers.
I am glad that whereever the demons flourish, there are always some angels like yourself ready to rescue them. Bravo...
I also understand completely why buying them into safety can only really work well where the numbers of demons is comparitively low otherwise they would use rescue cash as a means of replacing worn-out stock with fresh stock...
By all means do all in your power to call judgement down upon them.

H & P, that sounds terrible !!!! Poor pug babies !!!
I'd actually love to get in touch with you guys, find out how I can help.
We planning on moving to the UK...either London or Cornwall. Nicholas has an amazing offer that may be possible in Cornwall.
I know thats kinda far from Essex, etc, BUT, I'm sure I can help you out with puggers from wherever we live, AND even rescue 1 or 3 from you too !!!!
Have you got a website, or an email for me :)
I would seriously love to help any way or form that i can !!!!
Its sickening how many puppymills there are, they should be burnt to a crisp including the owners of them! Makes my heart sore and my blood boil!
I'll pray for you all in rescuing these little guys

That's so sad. I hope you have luck getting the rest of the poor puggies out of there, and that the other rescues are successful as well.
Thank you for helping these babies, they will only know the best from now on, I'm sure.

Very sad. I know it's always worrying when you see a big influx. I saw the little black girl on Almandine's page. Adorable.
As for the poor pugs not having a name, grrr! I hope they make their way to rescue!

Rescue is the a hearbreaking, frustrating business. People that just breed for money make me sick. They will get theirs, Karma will find them.
How tragic that PDE is on the rise over there too.
Every little bit helps, thank goodness you were able to rescue the ones you did, and you are working on rescueing more. It's all we can do - try to save one at a time.

Re: It's raining rescue pugs here in the UK
It does seem to be becoming world wide. Like you, Janet, we aren't anywhere near the flood that the US sees, but we are seeing an increasing number of dogs surrendered--across the board, not just pugs. and the number of mixes being dumped is astounding. I've recently shut our rescue to pug mixes for the most part. I can't keep up with the pugs, much less the mixes.
The all breed rescue for which I foster, just took in two pug/boston/shar pei mix puppies. there was a litter of 5 or 6 and I didn't have any room at all. Plus these dogs are going to be 50/60 lb dogs at full growth.

What a horrible situation for those dogs!
I hope you get them all!

How awful for those poor little things! I hope that the "breeders" get what is coming to them - physically and soon. Karma will run its course for them eventually.

The only good thing is that once their with you, they'll be in good hands and receive the medical & care they need. We've seen such a decline in applications this year our fosters are staying in rescue so much longer than they used too.
We've got four we're currently working on with one being a Senior sitting in a local shelter, no place for a grand old lady to be.
And I don't know if you guys have heard but guess what?? They've come out with a "Chocolate Pug". One of my volunteers sent me the link and wanted to know if I knew anything about them, great.......

no way - a chocolate pug!!! Don't we have enough problems in rescue as it is??? I loved that it was fairly "quiet" across the pond and don't like it at all that it's getting busier there as well.

Re: It's raining rescue pugs here in the UK
Hopefully it's just a blip. I seem to recall we had one at Christmas too, with a whole bunch coming in from a puppymill. Thankfully it is not more common.
Bert and Ernie had their first vet visit today and their first innoculations. They were soooo good!
Bert has a really nasty wrinkle - it's red raw and weeping from ongoing eczema and infection. Twice daily iodine wash and dry and twice daily antibiotics will hopefully help, if not it looks like a wrinkle resection and I know Welfare doesn't want to pay for that. Bert also has nasty ears, so twice daily ear stuff, and a very poorly eye, so twice daily eyedrops. The vet said he may lose the eye but I'm hopeful he won't.
Ernie has a nasty cysty looking thing inbetween his toes, the vet reckons a longstanding foreign object. She got lots of gunk out of it and he is on foot washes, antibiotics and twice daily ear stuff.
Thank goodness the two girls are in better shape. I think they had much better care and were indoors at least some of the time unlike the boys. I was very relieved to have Janet's help at the vets this morning - the boys are big lads and not they're not used to slippy floors or collars/harnesses. It really was a two person task!
The boys have had a big play in the garden, it's amazing how little muscle mass they have on their legs, and a big groom so they are loking a bit more presentable now. Such happy little souls.
The girls are going with Janet tomorrow, on the next stage of their journey. Hopefully there will be a home waiting for them in the next few days.

Oh Almandine, this breaks my heart about those boys!
I just cannot comprehend how people can view animals as objects. They really think animals have no feeling? Gah, it makes me so sick!
I hope Bert and Ernie can get healthy and find wonderful homes. How tragic they were kept outside at all times, and no medical attention.

To go from a deplorable situation to a stay at the Pugnest and handled lovingly by Aunty Janet and Aunty Almandine....certainly like going from hell to HEAVEN. On earth.

So, George is working his magic. Bless him.
So glad you have found a home for the girls.
Good luck with the boys. Having a big boy (Snifter) I know how they can object to things they don't much like!
