Meet Rocky Bear... (UPDATE-check near end of this message thread)

Post  Maryjo on 9/18/2010, 6:42 pm

Sadie from Seward got a call about a 4-yr-old (unneutered) pug boy who would need a home. The usual 'moving can't keep' story. Sadie talked them into giving him up to rescue.

She picked him up today (with release papers in her hand for them to sign) and met me halfway between Seward and Anchorage to hand him over. (About 60 miles one-way for each of us).

What a sweet boy he is! He has a gorgeous, wrinkley, huge head of an un-neutered pug, but his body is skinny. They said he liked staying outside in their yard, and didn't like being indoors much. WTF??

I took a few pics before taking him into Vickie's daycare. He'll go to a foster home as soon as he's neutered. I'll get better pics next week after he's neutered.

His name is Rocky. I added 'Bear' for a middle name because we have so many 'Rocky' pugs up here right now. *LOL*

I love his face!

Where are we?

What a sweetie:

MaryJo! He is gorgeous!!! I'm sure he'll go quickly!

Sorry I didn't get to meet him, but I'm sure I will soon. I'll be meeting, and likely taking, Lucky tonight.

If I lived closer I may be quite tempted to break my promise that I'm at my limit with two. Gads, he is adorable.

He's at the daycare. I would have brought him straight home, but many of my gang do not get along with unneutered dogs.

Send me pictures of Lucky, I don't have any yet.

Oh, handsome boy!! I can tell that he is a bit skinny, though. And is that a bad PK in his left eye?

A bit skinny? And here's me thinking gee, he looks in good condition compared to a lot of surrenders! Maybe in his wisdom he preferred to be outside for healthful exercise and less treat temptation? ashamed

Can I be nosy and ask why he ended up in rescue? Oops sorry, you did say "moving can't keep". Incredible he was surrendered! I'm glad he was though, especially as he is entire (temporarily Wink I'm sure he won't be long waiting for a new home once he's ready for adoption.

I met him tonight. He has the biggest pug head I have ever seen! Beautiful wrinkles. And, yes, he is underweight. Don't be fooled by the big head. His tail is very thick, and he has big paws too. Still the body is a little too skinny.

He seemed to be laboring to breathe, which worries me, since it is definitely not a weight issue.

He was very polite though when I met him. I can't imagine he would prefer to be outside more than inside.

Twist of fate...

Post  Maryjo on 9/20/2010, 12:46 pm

Well... The former owner called me crying, she misses him... She says her husband misses him so much they want to take him (and his pug sister) with them down the Alcan when they go.

I talked to Vickie. We decided they could adopt him back, but not until he's neutered (in case the they want him back to sell to a breeder). He gets his exam today, and neutered on Thursday. They are supposedly coming in Sunday to get him.

Vickie called her and told her the by-laws stated no dog gets adopted until spayed or neutered and she was OK with it. So I guess they are going to come in Sunday, pay the $200 adoption fee and take him.

I kind of hope they change their mind, but I guess this scenario is better than them trying to get him back intact.

You know MaryJo, Vickie told me this yesterday. I feel weird about it, since she already gave him up....but, at the same time, if she was impulsive about the decision, and is now willing to pay to adopt him back....then, at least he is getting neutered.

I asked Vickie if she has done this before, and she said she has. I trust her judgment.

Rocky is going to think he went on a long adventure that ends with losing his brains and then back home!

Vickie and I talked a long time about it. Since the gal was not going to fight the neutering, we decided it was OK to let him go back to his former owners. If she had fought the neutering, we would not have allowed it. He is PPR's dog now, and we have to go by our rules.

It was a difficult decision, but we hope it is the right one.
