Three Pugs Will Be Dumped Friday

Post  We're Here on 9/22/2010, 11:18 pm

In the name of god, we really need a big pug rescue to step up to the plate---quotation from someone on Craigs List when I suggested the pugs being dumped need to go to rescue---except that neither DFW or Homeward Bound is returning my emails--Allie, we really need some help, our major shelter is not a good choice

Thatwould be wonderful. I am from Missouri and comin to Tulsa this Friday so I thought I'd give Tulsa a shot to see if anyone wanted them! How could we work it out? I have no where to keep them there so I'd have to find a place Friday afternoon

Did I mention that our local large shelter is an owner surrender/immediate euthanasia sort of thing. Haven't heard back from the girl, and I cannot handle three new puggies. The economy is hitting everyone here real hard.

Ellen, that's terrible!
Can you get them at least just to get them out and save them, and straighten out the logistics of where they will go later?

I emailed the woman with the pugs this morning---I would certainly feel more comfortable if I could get a rescue, this is like trapeze work without the net or catcher. The whole focus is for the pugs not to die needlessly, or be surrendered to a commercial breeder. The business side of commercial breeding is very attractive to people who are out of work or living in remote locations. The consequence of breeding unwanted litters is of less importance to the byb than paying their rent or mortgage or propane for the winter. But without fail, large percentages of these litters wind up in rescue, shelters, or pounds and the byb machine grinds on. My hope for these three is for the machine to never seize them and use them.

Ellen - please PM me your email and a phone #. And/or give me the contact info of the girl who has the pugs. I will reach out to Karolyn and let her know.

Rescue work is usually crazy like this - will the pugs be given to rescue, when, who, etc. etc. It's hectic and frantic... but all for a good cause.

Ellen, I talked with Karolyn, and she did get your emails. She's working with HWB to coordinate with someone in Tulsa to get them, so we can then work out transport to DFW. We wanted to be sure HWB was in the loop, since it's their area.

If it's easier for you, please send me the contact info of the girl who wants to dump them off - we can take it from here.

Thank you Ellen,Allie and of course the rescues involved. Can you let me know what shape they are in when you get them? Because DFW helps out with Louisiana pugs in need,I can put a post for donations on the Louisiana shelter animal group I'm a mod on.

Thanks,
Trish

The trouble with Oklahoma and its economy is a free pug that can produce a litter will do so. A free pug that has been neutered or spayed will face the real chance of resale. An adv which appears has to be immediately acted on and thankfully DFW and HB was ready to take on the challenge. With Christmas around the corner, for those of us who are challenged by wrapping paper, sliding a check into the mail for your local rescue will be a gift that keeps on giving.

Looks like all three made it to Homeward Bound via the good offices of DFW. They are all about four years, good age for rehoming, and are in a vet's office being worked up. Wish I had photos of them, or knew the back story, but I don't. Fortunately they reached the safety of a professional rescue with funds for immediate vet care beginning with HW screening.

Fortunately this has a good outcome and DFW has stepped up to care for these pugs. Not without a lot of effort by a large team of volunteers.

Please forward any future ads on CL you see for pugs directly to rescue, rather than reaching out to the owners yourself. We understand the urgency, as we deal with these situations on a daily basis. We will take care of as many pugs as we can. There are many aspects of rescue and logistics that are not public knowledge, and thus rescuing needs to be left to those who have resources available to provide the needed care.

I'd also appreciate it if you would refrain from making remarks on other pug forums that place pug rescue in a less than flattering light. We went out of our way to take care of these pugs in the very short window of time you left for us. The least you can do is be supportive of the rescues.
