I have now seen everything......
I have now seen absolutely everything in rescue. This is an award winner.
As Tucker and I were driving back to Toronto from Buffalo on Sunday, we were lined up waiting to cross the border. In the line of cars next to us, a guy rolls down his car window and shouts to me "Hey! You work in pug rescue?" I was kind of delighted--he'd seen the bumper stickers, etc. I was expecting to have a fun little chat while we both waited for our turn to be grilled by customs. I said that yes, I did and handed him a business card when he asked for some details. He gets the card, looks at it and then says to me (wait for it), "Great, we've had a baby and we need to get rid of our pug".
Spiffy. I was gobsmacked. I just stared at him. Tucker was saying to me "Mom, roll up your window. MOM! Roll up your window before you lose it". So I rolled up my window and prayed to the Dog God that the customs people would give this guy a hard time.
Unbelievable. People really will just talk about dumping their dog anywhere, anytime. I guess I should be relieved he didn't have the pug in the car with him and walk it over and drop it into my car.

I was expecting the story to end with you getting the dog dumped on you then and there too!

Boy, we're a cynical bunch, aren't we? It was what I was afraid of myself, to be honest with you. But of course, they couldn't bring their dog across the border without it being fully vetted etc and likely the dog isn't. and it's obviously alot of work to have a dog......

That jerk probably thought it was his lucky day running into you waiting in line at the border. I also thought you were going to say he had the dog in the car and walked it over to you right there. Ass.

Well, thanks goodness he's going to "dump" the dog with rescue! What a jerk!
Re: I have now seen everything......
Well, thankfully the dumbass ran into you at the border & got your card. Otherwise, who knows where the poor pug probably would've wound up. It'll be better off with you guys in the long run.
I guess we really are a cynical bunch!

I think Tucker was really afraid that I would go off my nut and start something.pugasaurus wrote:Wow.![]()

And yes, better that the dog comes to us and gets a decent home. But I'm really tired of the "baby here. dog goes" story. I do understand that in some cases it has to happen--but it's rare in my experience.

That's how I thought this story would end!

I expected him to drop the pug on you right then and there, too. I know that people can be extremely ignorant, and it still floors me when I see it demonstrated.

I'll bet he had a big grin on his face as he said all that to you.

I can just see Tucker pulling out his wallet to make sure he had enough money for bail.
People suck.

I seriously thought they were going to hand you over the dog right then and there.
The pug is better off, they would probably just ignore the poor thing once the baby came.

I had a foster once that came into rescue because the owners had a baby. Poor pug had been the baby before the human kid arrived, then he was sent to live in the barn all by himself!!
