Ugh!
We got a call from the shelter about a 5 year old male on their euthanasia list who was found as a stray and has a gaping wound where one of his eyes should be and the other eye is in bad shape as well. I'm going to go get him tomorrow. There are also 2 puggles there that are almost out of time so we need to find fosters for them-wish us luck, please!!
Re: Ugh!
that poor guy!!! I hope you guys can help him. and good luck with the puggles too.

Oh man, Saira. Good wishes for the injured boy. And good luck with the puggles. I dread when I get a call about them as no one ever wants to foster them and they are hard as hell to adopt out.

I know, we really hate taking them but we can't say no when we know they'll be put down-I HATE getting those calls. I don't want to make those decisions!
Re: Ugh!
Ugh is right. I hope the little guy is going to be okay. And good luck with the puggles. Whoever thought that was a good idea should be strung up.

I agree, and it pisses me off there is a puggle meet up group there, but none of them ever step up-we have even suggested they start a rescue!

Oh man or should I say pug!
I'm sorry, it's times like these I wish I lived closer to help.

You know, I'd be inclined to give the head puggle person's phone number to Animal Services as the person to call for puggles.

And yeah - the puggle issue. It is frustrating. Those fools.

Re: Ugh!
Aww. Poor little guys. Poor pug with the eye injuries! I am glad the rescue is there for the ones that find their way to shelters (one way or the other)
And in defense of puggles, my sister took one in several years ago from someone who "couldn't keep him". Marley was young and wild-which is probably why his owners rehomed him! He is about five now and the best dog ever. I know that is few and far between, but he is the most patient dog with the kids and very affectionate to everyone. His only downfall is that damn bark. I swear you can hear him across town.

Aaaand another board member went to meet a family that said they had a pug they needed to surrender and it was this adorable girl who is clearly a pug mix. Maybe boston/pug? She seems very sweet!

It's not the puggles fault so much, it's that people don't really come to our site and want to adopt pug mixes, so they usually stay with us forever and a day, which ties up fosters (and we only have a few who will foster puggles), and then when it's raining pugs, it really makes it tough to find room for everyone. The last two we just had in, Ginger and Freakle, were actually pretty good dogs-except they had to be separated since they would fight with each other.
Re: Ugh!
It is beyond me to even think what might have happened to this poor pug. I am appalled, and so glad you're going to get him.
If he survives his injuries, and he doesn't have a name, would you maybe consider calling him George? Today would have been the 10th birthday of Almandine's George; he went to the Bridge 4 weeks ago today.

Re: Ugh!
I don't know what it is about puggles, an acquaintance of mine has both a pug and a puggle, I was talking with her and her husband said if they had to do it all over again they would have just gotten pugs, not that they don't love their puggle and would never get rid of him, they just said he was so much harder to deal with than their pug.
Good luck with them, the pug mix is adorable.

Sending puggy vibes that the little fellow with the appalling eye injuries can be made as comfortabel as possible as soon as possible.
The puggle can't help being a puggle, but the breeder ought to be shot. I should be shot, too - really I should just say pug mix for all the crosses.
The brindle pug mix in the picture reminds me of a staffordshire BT cross I once knew - an adorable dog once fully mature, but very full on when young. (Not unlike most pugs come to think of it.)
Bless you for all you do.

She's a cutie! She reminds me a lot of Sammy, who we've always assumed is Frenchie/pug.Saira wrote:Aaaand another board member went to meet a family that said they had a pug they needed to surrender and it was this adorable girl who is clearly a pug mix. Maybe boston/pug? She seems very sweet!

Yep, she definitely looks like a "Bug" to me. She's cute but from what I understand, they can be as much of a handful as the puggles. Good luck with all of them Saira!

Wow Saira! If I lived closer I would be helping you as much as possible. Whether its fostering or picking up...hell, I'm even starting to think FUND RAISER these days!
My daughter's friend has a puggle that she got at the pet store about 3 years ago - Murphy - she paid $1200 for him!!!! This was before I knew a damn thing about dogs and I thought "puggle" was a breed
God, the things we learn when we are ready to learn! Geez!!!
The mix is adorable!!!!! Good luck with everything! You are one hell of a woman!

Nah, it's just what all rescue and rescue people do! By the way, Tarrington, I started in rescue in much the same way you are now, lol. I loved Hooligan, wanted another one, saw the rescue needed a foster for Indy and "fostered" him. We adopted him, then the ladies who ran the rescue sent out a letter saying they were retiring and if anyone was interested in a forming a new group to join a yahoo group. So I did. Then I went to the first meeting. Then the rest was history.
Janet, thanks for the suggestion, I don't think he does have a name, and from what seems to be his background, I'd rather give him a new one anyways. The shelter vet said they thought it was either from abuse or another dog, they weren't sure. Apparently they flushed it out and sewed it shut-and for them to do any sort of medical treatment means it must have been bad. I'll post an update when I get back. It'll be a long day.
Princess, the pug mix is really cute-we posted her on FB and I think we might even have a previous adopter interested in her. The people got her from a guy who was tying her a chair, sometimes for a couple days at a time. What is wrong with people? She's at our vet getting spayed, I am going to see if I can stop in and see her while I am there.
