So glad they're all going to get the care they need.

Re: Ugh!
I got started in rescue much the same way as Saira. I had 2 pugs already, that I purchased from breeders...and then, we found out about pug rescue in Alaska, and adopted a pug. It took me a few years after adopting to really decide I wanted to get more involved in rescue. Now, there is no looking back!
The poor puggles. It isn't their fault they are puggles - it just pisses me off about those dumbass breeders and their "designer dogs"!
I can't believe they tied Princess to a chair! WTF?

Re: Ugh!
Let me be clear that I'm not writing off all puggles, but honestly, as a mix, it's a disaster. For the most part, they are tough dogs to deal with--most of them have alot of beagle characteristics--and I like beagles, but they aren't the easiest dogs in the world. And by the time people want to surrender the puggles to us, they are a behavioural mess from stupid ownership.
Think about it--you mix a breed (pug) which is stubborn, pushy, frequently rude and potentially food aggressive and you mix it with a breed (beagle) that is high drive, high energy, territorial, often a resource guarder and scent driven. It's tailor made to create a dog that shouldn't be in the hands of beginners and will need an owner that understands both breeds, beagles, especially.
Far and away, the puggles (I know I should say pug mix--but I'm specifically talking about the pug/beagle) that people want to surrender to us have long and bad histories of aggression. We get 5 or 6 calls a year from puggle owners who have had the dog since they were puppies, are now 3/4/5 years old and have a bite record that makes me shudder. Not touching that dog.
Your little girl mix is CUTE! The boston/pug mixes can be nightmares as well--but often aren't as frequently aggressive as the pug/beagle mixes seem to be. We've had a few who were really busy, but not bad dogs overall.
And bottom line, we all know there's no reason to be deliberately breeding "pet quality" dogs, much less mixes. Rescues and shelters are full of them.

Re: Ugh!
Saira, good luck with the pug.
And about puggles. Don't even get me started. Poor things, it's not their fault, but almost everyone that I had in class had some behavioral issue, usually dog aggression.
Though I did foster one for DFWPR that I had for a long time and I wanted to keep, but he was old and my guys were young and they didn't mix well. I called him Chango, and if he would have been an only dog, he would've been awesome! He was a bit loud at times, but other than that, he was a little lover, smart, and had a funny personality. He got cold really easy and he loved to wear coats, you'd tell him how handsome he was and you could see his little chest puff up and he'd strut around, it was so funny!

I do know some nice ones--but they are owned by folks who actually know beagles well and treat the dog more like a beagle which has worked.pugasaurus wrote:Saira, good luck with the pug.

And interestingly, I would have predicted that the "trouble" mix would have been the pug/JRT, but almost without exception, the "jugs" have been great dogs. Busy as stink, but not many other JRT characteristics.
Re: Ugh!
Well it turns out Princess has demodex, and another one of our pugs in rescue might have bladder stones. It's been a great week!

Um, remember Peg's Gidget? She was a "jug" and a PITA. And the exception, I think. Cute, though.

Re: Ugh!
I am in total awe of all of you in rescue. I truly so respect and admire what it takes to do what you all do.
I hope that the Pug's eyes are not that bad. But he will know love with or without good eyesight.
Also hope all of the other are ok. Good luck with Princess this evening.

You are awesome!!!!! I bet her and Zoe will have a lot of fun!
Have you fostered before? I didn't know you foster!
Re: Ugh!
I don't foster often as I don't have a backyard. If I did, I'd foster all the time! This is the third time for me.
she is here and I'm learning how to type with a pug sleeping in my lap. meanwhile, Zoe (the non cuddler) is asleep at the opposite end of the couch. lol
the hardest part is that since she was just spayed, I'm not supposed to let them play and Zoe wants to play so badly! I think if I let them they'd be running and playing, but I am watching her like a hawk.
