You know, at first I was SHOCKED at the price. I mean, I thought I would never buy it! But, it really is a great product, and I will happily buy and use it in rotation. I can't go with it 100% of the time, but I will use it in combination. My guys really, really loved it! I think I'll use it more in the summer, when there are more outside allergens, and they are more likely to be having reactions.

Just out curiosity, why is it so much more expensive than the other types?

This is from their site:
Why so much?:
The cost of fish is much more expensive than the other proteins we use, such as chicken, turkey and beef. We’re extremely conscious of our environmental paw print, so only sustainably caught, human grade fish would do.

We tried the Zeal for the first time this weekend too. Well, I should say that Bella tried it (not "we")! Laughing She seems to like it well enough but she doesn't really suffer from allergies or anything so we'll just use for rotation purposes every now & then. I thought that the consistency was very strange. Almost grainy?

I know Mastiff people are very specific about the foods they will feed. Health problems cost 10 fold in a dog that big. Weight is very important so not to cause undo stress on joints. I although have not talked to anyone who is feeding THK due to the amount of it you would have to feed at one sitting. Odin eats 8-10 cups a day and I can't even fathom how much that would cost to feed THK.

He goes through a 40 bag in about 2 to 2 1/2 weeks. It isn't bad cause I am used to it, but he does consume considerably more than the pugs who combined (4) only get 2 2/3 a day.

I have tried everything.... All the "good foods" made him poo a river. Literally. I tried over a dozen. Picking up a mastiff sized poo is bad enough, but picking up a stinky pool of mud that size is even less fun. So I begrudgingly admit he is eating SD I/D. It is the ONLY food that did not give him runny poop. I do supplement it with the Natural Balance I feed the pugs, but even too many cups of that with his food makes it unpleasant. So not only is he eating 10 cups a day, but it's also over $90 for a 40 lb bag.

I'm sure people have talked to you about it....but, what about raw? I don't mean THK raw, or anything commercial like that....I mean, the "whole prey/carcass" method? I just think with the raw bone he would be able to consume, you might be able to get the consistency you are looking for?

But, if you have tried over a dozen kinds of food, I think you've probably exhausted most avenues. Poor Odin!

This is what I was thinking as well. But if he has a sensitive stomach that can be a real issue. I have been going through that with Lola for the past 2 months. I couldn't imagine doing that with a dog that eats 4-5 lbs a day.
