Names, Games and Automobiles

Post  juneau hunter on 10/28/2010, 10:15 am

Sooooo here I go....about to start a pug rescue in my little part of the world.

I looked into registering a non-profit organization and have to decide if I am going to be provincial or federal. I've reviewed the pros and cons. Still can't decide which is the best way to go. Blanche, what do they do in Ontario? Do you only adopt to people in Ontario? If so, is the rescue there registered as provincial?

Then I have decide if I am going to incorporate or not. If it is incorporated than directors, etc can change, but the actual rescue never will. Also, the legal issues (God forbid there are any) will be dealt with as a company, rather than me, personally.

Anyway....I need a name!!! I have to have a name search done and submitted with my application.

I've thought of:

1) New Brunswick Pug Rescue (for obvious reasons, but don't want to be confused with New Brunswick, Connecticut). This is a big confusion for people that don't know New Brunswick is an actual province because we are so small.

2) Pug Priority Rescue (Darian came up with this one because he likes the sound of "Pug Authority")

3) Oceanic Pug Rescue (Darian's other suggestion - with a play on the series LOST, plus we are surrounded by water). He is coming up with all these slogans: "No Pug is an Island" and "Be a Leader; Be Forever" Laughing

4) Purple Pug Rescue Squad: Darian again! Only because my favourite colour is purple and I'm always complaining that I can't decorate in purple or wear purple. rofl

Does anyone else have an idea??

Then there is the fundraising aspect...and pug meet up stuff....

And....I'm going to change my license plate to something cool....which is a long ways from what I wanted to have on my license plate: MYXSUX rofl

I like Pug Priority Rescue. And who would have thunk it when you first joined PA as a pug newbie? Now you are saving the world, one pug at a time. Now for the license plate - how many letters/numbers can you have?

Ditto, and ditto! Tarrington, you are very brave and doing a wonderful thing. I don't have any helpful advice though.

I like Oceanic Pug Rescue, it gives an idea of your location.

And for the License Plate? "LUVPUGS"

This is just my humble opinion, but I love when rescues have something in their name that indicates where they are, whether it's a city or state or province, or even country in the case of Canada or the UK (but only because I'm in the US).

It just makes it so much easier to remember who serves what area, and to think quickly of who to contact about those emails we all inevitably get about the pug who needs to be rehomed now-today-this-minute-or-it's-going-to-the-pound-I-swear, but the person sending the email lives 3 states away.

I like Oceanic Pug Rescue. But, I love the water myself.

And, since you don't need that old license plate, I think I'll take it! My ex does suck! rofl

My advice - incorporate!

Whatever you choose, think of the acronyms. PPR, OPR, NBPR.

If I had a pug rescue, I would call it Wrinkle Ranch Rescue. But, I don't and probably never will. Besides, it's difficult to say.

Other ideas:
No Pug Left Behind (Just think of the pug butt logo you could use!)

Just to be different, I am not a fan of the "priority" name(s), - some people already demand that rescue drop everything and come get their unwanted dog NOW...I shudder to think what their idiot expectations of a priority service would be, and how much time would be wasted explaining that to them.

Having a region name is good, and saves heaps of confusion...I hear what you're saying about the province name though, pity you don't live in Nova Scotia, there would be no confusion then! Isn't there some sort of regional name for the penisula sort of thingie that New Brunswick shares with Nova Scotia? What does the rest of Canada call you? Far Eastern Canadians or what?

I kinda like Far Eastern Canadian Pug Rescue LOL fits well with the asian origin of the pug! And acronym would be FECPR - hmmmm, my cat just said that (with a hairball accent)! rofl

There is a BYB in N. CA who calls herself Wrinkle Ranch...I'd hate for you to be confused with this "woman".

Good point! We are called "Atlantic Canada" or "Maritimes" but this usually includes NS, Newfoundland and PEI. I like Far East. I also thought of the fact that pugs are often not called "pugs" in NB because so many people speak French. They are called Carlin(s)...ugh!

Maybe your cat speaks French! rofl
