Woman Needs Roxanne or Nv Rescue
Under rescue, an agitated woman has asked for help to avoid the immediate placement of her thirteen year old in a shelter/pound. Would someone go to PV where the post is under Inspector 13/Rescue and give her some practical advice or aid. Thanks.

It could be Pros area, but the woman is not able to get through the phone log (if you know either Rebecca or Roxanne via FB, can you ask them to help save this elderly gentleman. ) I know it is really hard when emergencies compress the time frame, but her first post was this afternoon on PV. Thank you all for helping.

Re: Woman Needs Roxanne or Nv Rescue
If we could rub a lamp and get quality foster homes, or even move the pugs we have in rescue, life would be good. Unfortunately, due to lack of foster homes, we have a waiting list for owner turn-ins. We scramble just to find room for the ones in the shelters. I find it hard to believe people can't make it work and want to abandon their elderly dogs. I left my husband with $7 in my wallet and all 4 pugs. I stayed on my friend's couch for weeks before I found a place. I just don't understand people that give the rescue no notice, want us to drive over an hour to pick up their dog, and blame us for not responding back to them on their timeline.

Amen. I feel the same way.
Re: Woman Needs Roxanne or Nv Rescue
If you can get Winston before he is dumped at a shelter and euthanized, and hold him for a week, I suspect that San Diego's bunch will come for him. Tragedy doesn't have a time clock, nor grief a calendar. But Winston doesn't deserve to die over this, not at all. If you want I will pm you a number to contact for their transport person who is unfortunately unable to go this time. Please help Winston. Thanks for giving Thanksgiving a real meaning.

Isn't there a Las Vegas rescue group? Mel is involved there, no? Can they help this lady and the old gentleman pug?

I don't need a Thanksgiving dinner, but I will donate the same amount of money I would spend---$35 to the rescue who picks him up to help defray inconvenience and gas money. I am retired so the check would be either mailed in the fourth week of November or electronically transferred to a rescue bank account. Tall Grass Pugs

Yes, there is. They are 10 hours away and have absolutely NO ROOM.Cookie wrote:Isn't there a Las Vegas rescue group? Mel is involved there, no? Can they help this lady and the old gentleman pug?
I'm sorry, but people don't seem to be understanding that if these rescues could help, they would. These are decent people who move heaven and earth to help pugs. They are at capacity and beyond.
It's not about it being inconvenient. It's about not having the capacity to fit in one more pug for any length of time. Some times we just CAN'T help because we have full foster homes that simply can't be asked to more and more and more. I know this is the case with SNPR and Rebecca is certainly saying that PugSavers is in the same boat.
Re: Woman Needs Roxanne or Nv Rescue
I am sorry Ellen, the guilt should not be placed on us. It should be placed on this lady ready to dump her oldster because the pug is no longer convenient. I am SO SICK of getting bashed as a rescue because we can't drop everything and help. Believe me, if I could I would. My best friend just had a brain tumor removed and my dad is in cardiac failure. I took in two hospice pugs less than a week after my pug died, when the pain was still so raw. I have fostered many special needs pugs, for many years and have felt the guilt when I couldn't do more. Is it fine to let a dog die in the shelter because we are helping this lady out? What about all of the other owner turn-ins on the waiting list? Would she feel guilty about that? I doubt it. Once they relinquish the pug to us, they don't look back. Seriously, this lady is the bad guy, not me. And, I would happily give up my Thanksgiving dinner too. I have given up things for the pugs, including paying the majority of my hospice pug's vet bills so the rescue is not further burdened. I ate ramen for months when things were tight, so my pugs would not go without. I understand. I don't think this lady does.

I don't think that there is guilt being placed, but an earnest offer to help a pug that is too far for Ellen to reach.
Reading the OP's plea ... and her past posts on the other forum ... this is a child, not an adult. There is parental and family pressure to rehome the poor dog. Kid and dog are seemingly caught in the middle, and the kid is reaching out to a overly strained and burdened Rescue system. Everyone here and in the other forum gets that there is little to no room at the inn ... but the kid gave her phone number, can't someone closer than Oklahoma pick up the phone to talk to her, offer advice and comfort?

Really, no guilt? It was messaged to me that your mom posted on another forum that "the rescue is backing away as usual". We do not need to be called out by your mom on a public forum. If we could help, we would in a heartbeat. It is just too easy for people to dump their dogs, and we are left to pick up the pieces for the animals.

I've followed with half interest the thread on both forums ... and seen no such quote. Perhaps dealing on on one rather than relying on PMs and innuendo would be more beneficial? I even searched the other forum for the phrase, and it is not there. She brought the plight here to see if help could be found. The more eyes, the more brains, the more effective the community is to aid and assist.
Yes, it is too easy for humans to dump the animals. See it daily on the local CL and Shelters and Equine rescue I help with. Many fall through the cracks, and maybe this one will too ... but not for the lack of asking the people closest to the situation. If this is a minor asking for help, I am not sure that it can be described as a typical 'dumping'. A family crisis is never conveniently scheduled.
With no room at the Inn/foster homes ... what about offering cross posting, vet referrals, petfinders.com, craigslist. None of these will infringe on rescue resources and might help the kid send her pug on to a new family.

Re: Woman Needs Roxanne or Nv Rescue
Since San Diego can take the pug, why not give the $$ to the woman dumping the pug to drive him to San Diego.
Really, when we make it so easy for people to dump their animals, they will continue to do it again and again.
People who point fingers at rescue volunteers who are overworked, sick and unable to do more, are shameful and should remember than 3 fingers are pointing back at them.

We have no room for senior pugs for the pugs here, much less for ones 10 hours away. All the pugs we currently have in are older and/or have medical issues, we have exactly TWO fosters who will take senior pugs in at the moment and if you do the math, you know they are full and over capacity and we dread when we get that next call for one down here and we have to figure something out. We get no apps for the older pugs so they stay with their foster homes forever, some are coming up on a year. If we could help, we would -we have always taken in pugs from other places when we can, we just took in the 3 pugs from CA when every other rescue in southern CA said no after they were told they were food aggressive. Every dog we get from southern ca is old and/or sick, because its after every other rescue has passed. So when I say if we could help we would, I think our track record speaks to this fact. However, we just CAN'T right now, much less for a place 10 hours away. We have many foster homes for the young and healthy, but try finding people who will foster (much less adopt) a 13 year old and everyone runs away because quite honestly, a 13 year old pug is a hospice pug who is going to most likely stay there. We are trying to find a foster for another older pair at the moment, and don't have any place for them.
And yes, there is always guilt placed on rescues and people piling on when we say we are full. It's pretty much par for the course.
I am trying to contact PROS to see if they actually got a message from her much like everyone else here, they all have full time jobs and are juggling their own incomings. I also have a call out to someone I know in Utah to see if she has any contacts as well as she has a pretty big network.
And again, LA and San Diego are going to be closer than we are and are much bigger than us.

Re: Woman Needs Roxanne or Nv Rescue
I've been following this here and elsewhere and it just breaks my heart. I'm so sad that it is playing on so many emotions as I know everyone who is involved, even peripherally, feels heartsick for the Pug involved. DAMN people who throw down the "take-my-pug-or-else" gauntlet. DAMN THEM. I think Roxane's suggestion of donating the money Ellen has kindly offered to the owner involved to transport her Pug to San Diego sounds like a good solution. At least there is a spot. The owner has to put in some effort, other than throwing it out on the internet for everyone else to pick up the pieces. And DON'T make any excuses for her why she CAN'T get the poor Pug to San Diego!!!!

I might have a home for this pug. I'm checking into it now. Does anyone know if he's still with his owner?
