she is adorable! Brenda, I am glad she is with you, and can learn how to be a diva pug.

Re: Possible new foster
Brenda, she is soooo pretty! If she is that small and having seizures, I'd check for a liver shunt. Hopefully everything will medically be under control soon. And emotionally as well.

Re: Possible new foster
Brenda- I am late to this thread but I am on the Canine Epilepsy forum and it has been a great help to me. Norton is on three AED's now to control his seizures. He takes Pheno, Keppra and Potassium Bromide. We added the Potassium Bromide in September after almost a year of seizures every 2-3 weeks. Horrible to say the least. We buy the Keppra at Costco for 25.00. You don't have to be a member to get a prescription filled. Let me know if you have any questions about it. You have experience with seizures but I will tell you that every dog reacts differently to a medicine.
Re: Possible new foster
Thanks for the input, Gretchen. I thought about PM-ing you because I know that you've been down this long, hard road with Norton. So far, so good. She's only had two seizures that we've seen & her bile acids test came back good. We're going to start her on potassium bromide and then hopefully wean her off of the high dose of phenobarbitol that she's on (to a lower one). I did ask my vet about Keppra but he said that he's had success with the pheno & potassium bromide combination. Her previous owner tried the bromide but I don't think that they kept her on it long enough for it to build up in her system & make a difference. From what I've read on the various epi-dog websites & email lists that I've joined, that can take as long as 2-3 months.

Re: Possible new foster
Brenda - I didn't have really much success with the Keppra addition but in September we added the Kbr and Norton has had one or two seizures since then. We did a loading dose for the Kbr and it made Norton very very loopy. He was clumsy and it made it very difficult to watch. I took to carrying him up and down the stairs because I was afraid he was going to tumble down. Things have settled down and he seems to be handling it very well. He is getting back to his happy go lucky self. The past year was very difficult and the seizures did effect him quite a bit. Feel free to email me any time. Norton just turned 6 in August and I thought for a while that he was not going to make it and after this past summer of where he tried to commit pug suicide by eating three 8oz of chocolate bars..it really is a miracle he is here. My email is gretchenminx AT gmail dot com
