Mushu is worrying me to death!

Post  MAAlfred on 12/7/2010, 7:51 pm

Last Friday when I got home from work Mushu didn't come to see me. Wayyyy not normal. I finally found him and I could tell he was upset. He calmed down some and when we woke up Saturday morning he was indistress again. I took him right to the vet and they couldn't find anything wrong with him upon examination. They did empty his glands but they weren't the problem. They gave me pain meds and prednisone. He got a little better each day and he was really sassy today. Then, a little while ago he was walking accross the sofa to sit on my lap and started yelping in pain. There was absolutely no visible reason. Now he's back to panting and shaking. I gave him some pain meds and I'll have to call his vet in the morning but I just don't know what's wrong with him. He's breaking my heart.

Did they do bloodwork at all? Might be a good place to start.

I knew a dog that had Lyme and would yelp in pain for seemingly no reason. Is he at least eating, still?

Try not too worry too much from now until you call the vet. The vet will probably want to do some diagnostics. Hopefully they'll find something easily fixed or that Mushu feels 100% better soon. Hugs!!

Very scary when something is wrong, and we don't know what it is or how to help.

Watch very close for any other symptoms or triggers. Report them all to the vet, and if you don't get the right answer, try another vet. A second opinion can be invaluable.

Good luck and hugs. I have been where you are.

I have been watching him and nothing seems to trigger it. He is eating and drinking just fine so they didn't think it was gastric or pancreatitis. He doesn't have any tender spots when you touch him. He does have one wonky knee but he's not limping eather. I keep explaining to him that he's not allowed to be sick or hurt, but he's not impressed.

I'm so sorry Meredith! I hope you can get to the bottom of this, find the cause and it's easily treated. Or at the very best he gets better quickly with no recurrance. hug dog

Gee it's so hard when they can't tell us what's wrong. Was he still on the anti-imflammatory and pain kill meds when the latest episode happened? Sometimes it's hard to find muscular or ligament injuries as they may not show tenderness on examination only when under extension.

Lots of healing vibes en route to him.

Just checking to see if there were any updates. Hooli gets like this every once in a while, he has a pretty sensitive stomach so when he doesn't feel good, that is how he acts.

He's been taking his anti-imflammatory the whole time. He has a dogtors appointment Saturday. He hasn't had another episode but he's very lethargic.
